Octane booster
 

I've been told not to use fuel injector cleaners on TT Z32s. This octane booster says on the front "cleans fuel injectors." (See attached photo). Should I just use this on a different vehicle? Thanks

There's about 1.2 trillion online articles discussing FI cleaners and octane boosters. General rule of thumb is "you get what you pay for". Cheap boosters are cheap for a reason.

Is there a specific brand you would recommend?

Years ago I read an article in consumer reports that advised against it. I can't remember exactly the details of why but I believe it was explained this way if I remember correctly:

Over time the fuel injectors will form "scarring, channels, canals, (or whatever you want to call it)" caused by contaminants. Using fuel injector cleaners cleans out those canals when it's advisable to allow the canals to be filled by "the stuff you are trying to clean out". Basically, I think the theory is cleaning the injectors will allow more fuel to pass through them or something. I haven't done any research on this yet but it's definitely on my list of things to do in the near future.

I think I brought it up to a mechanic once (still years ago) and I think he told me that if the injectors are routinely kept clean, your fuel is clean, tank is clean, fuel lines are clean , and you stay on top of replacing your fuel filter, then it should be fine, but if you've gotten bad gas with particulate contamination or even water contamination that could potentially corrode anything, then it's very possible the rust can get past the filter and through the injectors.

It could all be theory, best thing to do is do some searching around to see if anybody has ever put the results under a microscope.
