NoOb thing to do :( dip stick stuck
Well i got a engine droped in and after adding oil tried to remove the dip stick and it is STUCK!:disgust: I had to swap oil pans and, being oblivious to the detail, didn't line up the dipstick in the oil pan. I should have had it out in the first place but.... so should i just yank on it and hope that the end doesn't rip off. Is there another way to get it out of there other than pulling everything from underneath? besides that the engine turned out great! :icon_super: It fired up nice and runs better than the car ever has. Any help with with would be very much appreciated.

If its really stuck that bad youre going to have to take it apart again.
My suggestions. 1. pull it, if it comes out it comes out, if not its stuck. 2. just always pay attention to the gauge if you dont want to pull the pan off again. if the car burns oil and what not just fill it like normal. You should probably work on getting that dip stick out. Just ripping it out could snap it off on the bottom, i dont know if you want that metal chunk floating around... |
I think i'm just going to rip it out and if it breaks, it breaks. I'll just fish it out with a magnet. I'll let you know how it goes when i get to it.

If it breaks, you sure as hell aren't going to get the stuck part out w/ a magnet. I'm not too familiar w/ the Z32 underside, but is it too awkward to loosen the oil pan so you can unwedge the dipstick?

Its not completely stuck. It can pull out about a half in. and go back in, it just wont come out all the way. From what the pic shows the only reason i would think that it is stuck is that the stick is stuck between the guide ( Circled in red) and the block. So if it breaks i think/hope that the broken piece will drop somewhere that i can get a magnet to.

If it breaks, you will never be able to get it out with a magnet unless you drop the oil pan. But you have no choice.
And to drop the oil pan with the engine in the car requires removing the steering rack and several other things, as I recall. In the future, remove the dipstick when doing any work. lol |
