My Twin Turbo Rebuild Thread
My Twin Turbo Rebuild Thread
Alright guys, it all started with boost leaking, IAC being leaking, PCV needing service, now the intake manifold seems to be leaking. I have been thinking and it seems that i will be going through with an overhaul instead. I mean my car has 160K on the clock so i think it's time to freshen her up.
I'm not going to do a High HP rebuild i rather want a mild build for a reliable fun weekend car. Sence a track car is already in the line up for something i can go tear bet up and in the end park it back for the next track day and not worry about getting popped by the good old SoCal Highway patrol.
My Plans so far
-OEM gasket kit + missing gaskets and seals that don't come with it
-New Hardware for the Head (ARP)
-New Hardware for the Rods (ARP)
-Clean, inspect all parts, and replace worn parts
-Coolant bypass for TB's
-EGR delete
-New Vacuum lines
-New Fuel Lines
I want to stick with an OEM bottom end and head I just want to do bolt on's (Intake, Exhaust, SMIC, Turbo's Injectors and ECU) nothing crazy. Thinking about taking the stock turbo's to a turbo shop near me that does real good jobs on rebuilding turbo's

id say metal head gaskets instead stock and maybe some forged pistons but if you really dont plan on going serious, just the metal head gaskets. also stock turbo's = boring lol. but turbo's are expensive.

If you're gonna go through all that work, do a compression test before tearing into it... see if perhaps new rings might be a good idea.

Yeah that;s what i said too, but if im going that far i figured why get lazy with that so I'm getting new rings anyway. here is my complete shopping list so far.
Engine Gasket Kit $295.00 Concept Z Performance
Piston Rings $135.00 Concept Z Performance
Rod Bearings $4 x6 = $24.00 Concept Z Performance
Main Bearings #1 $12, #2 #3 $17, #4 $18.00 Concept Z Performance
Greddy Timing Belt $150.00 Concept Z Performance
PCV Hose Set $86.00 Concept Z Performance
300 Degree EGR Bypass $45.00 Concept Z Performance
OEM Head Bolts $75.00 Concept Z Performance
Thermostat $16.00 Concept Z Performance
Heater Hoses $24.00 Concept Z performance
Total $868.00
so far that's price list on parts. I'm thinking of taking my turbos to a shop that my friend took his SR20 T25 and got some custom work done to it. and if was bad *** not any more laggy than stock, yet flowed allot more air, he dynoed 340ish WHP @ 16psi. wich is not bad at all. so i might take that route take my turbos to him and tell him to work his magic.
there is a local Industrial Hose place where i work, so I will be getting 3ply Silicone hoses for my Water hoses that go by the thermostat housing I don't want the stock brittle ones to break on me like on my last Z. also will be cleaning all the parts in our old shops Parts cleaner, block and heads will be going to machine shop for a hot bath, and getting the valves reseated + new seals.

Keep in mind, you don't have T25's. You have TB022's.
Also, I'd recommend foregoing the OEM bearings from Coz... take your crank to a machine shop, have it checked to see if it has worn considerably, and have them cut it if needed. You may need oversized bearings. The last things you'd want to happen is to rebuild everything and find out through rod knock that your crank didn't wear evenly.
