Loss of power, hesitant acceleration
Hoping for yours guys help. I have a 94 n/a and recently began to have trouble. There is a significant loss of power even when I floor it, it barely accelerates. The engine also makes like a clicking or rattling noise. I've replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs but no luck....

Welcome to ZDriver! :006:
Have you pulled the ecu diagnostic codes? |
I did and got code 55 which didnt help
check timing, if its incorrect, correct it. If it is correct, it can be a malfunctioning ECU.
Thanks for the tip!!
Im an amateur mechanic at best so do i need a timing light? n the ecu is ok cuz i swapped it out with an old one to check...i am goin to check tomorrow to see if the knock sensor is functioning.. |
i forgot to mention that when the car is stopped the idle falls to almost 0 and sometimes stalls but it usually goes back up to 1000...it keeps doing that until you start accelerating
try to pull your MAF sensor off and clean it .
i cleaned it with an maf cleaner from the auto parts store but no luck....i actually ordered a new one last week so hopefully it will work
tried the new maf and still nothing...took it to the dealer and they said its probably a problem with the wiring harness and it costs 600 just to diagnose and they rather not even do it cuz it could open up a can of worms...

how long has it been since your timing belt replacement??? if anything it skipped a beat, and the clicking/rattling could be an idle bearing or the tensioner, it could even be a valve. im just assuming since you get a code 55. Also check for vacuum/Boost leaks.
make sure all pipes and hoses from MAF to throttle body are connected and good condition (no rips ) . code 55 indicates there is no code stored . timing belt alignment is also a good place to check , but it is very time consuming . good luck .
Every time I retrieve the codes now I get a different one..13 33 34 42 53...I never get the same code twice in a row. I plan to take it to z spe******t if there is one in socal.
turns out it was the timing belt. i chekced it out and it was off by 4 teeth. luckily no bent valves. thanks for everyones help and thanks hexaggram for pinpointing it.
