Intake Comparison
I could have probably seached the forums and found what I needed. There are some new products though and you may have tried some, so...... I'm buying a TT, currently own a NA but it doesn't have the potential I want. The one I'm buying is all stock and a 90, I'm changing the clutch first cause I'm used to a new one, but after that it's performance. I was thinking a new intake should be first on the list of upgrades. Any preferrences? What about performance specs? It should go unsaid that you want the most HP for your buck right.
Well, new clutch I would think could free up some horse or at least let you put more to the ground..what stage are you going to do? Well, of course, intake and exhaust are great upgrades for beginning. Also an ECU will give you a huge gain in horsepower for your buck...(somewhere around 60 i believe?). I suggest going to Rizz's link page and looking around. It's the bible for Z32's lol
.
.
#1 - intake.
#2 - cat back exhaust.
#3 - ECU upgrade.
I would recommend that you purchase #1 & #3 from Z1 Motorsports. I recommend Specialty Z for #2. If you want, you can purchase the full exhaust system from the turbo back. It's bit more pricey, but worth the $ in performance. I have it in my car, except I have the Stillen cat back (Specialty Z's is better) and it sounds sweet. You'll have 403 FWHP by doing 1-3. If you go with full turbo back, then you'd be in the ballpark of 425. You'll need a performance clutch to hold that power. I went ACT. There are many other clutches out there. You'd also want to consider a lightened flywheel and a 1-piece driveshaft. The flywheel and driveshaft don't increase horsepower, but they do free some up. You can add a set of underdrive pullies also. With those, you'll be in the ball park of 450FWHP; which is about 400 - 415 RWHP. With those mods, you'll begin pushing the limits of your injectors. You can go with the NISMO 555cc injectors. If you wind up replacing those, then you'd want to consider the honed upper and lower plenums. That'll get you into the 475-500FWHP range. Intercoolers would be a good idea as your next step. If you want, headers or a ported exhaust manifold would be nice, but if you do that, you'll probably want to upgrade the turbos also. If you go over a stage 2 - 3 turbo, then you'd want to consider building up your internals. As you can see, it's very easy to drop a disgusting amount of $ into these cars in a hurry.
And yes, Rizz's link page is very useful.

Thank you very much all very good Info. What do you think about JWT clutches? Can't hold the HP? What is Rizz's site?

Here...

JWT makes quality stuff. I'm sure it's fine.
Originally from Redding, huh? I work in Red Bluff and live in Gerber. Do you ever make it back up this way?

i think they range from like 700 up depending on if you get resonators, h-pipe, x-pipe, stainless steel, and some other things. great quality tho
yea AshSpec. it has been proved to outperform the JWT ecu and is somewhat
cheaper.
RPS and ACT clutches are pretty good. they have some at specialtyz.com as well
i guess we have front wheel cars now huh??

FWHP....Flywheel horsepower.
Ashspec is sold by Z1 Motorsports. www.z1motorsports.com
It is supposed to be better than the JWt and it's less expensive. JWT is $600. ASH is $300. Core charges apply to both.
If you go with an exhaust system from Specialty Z from the turbos back, plan on spending about $2k.

Specialty Z
Hey I emailed the man at Specialty Z it's about $1500 to $1600. He has some used pieces that he said he'd knock off the price some. LOL, yeah at first I was wondering about the FWHP but I figured it was flywheel. I was just guessing though
So AshSpec huh. Core charges apply when you purchase and get refunded when you send it in, right?

Exactly right!
If you are in no hurry and can go without your car for a few days. You can send them your core with your $300 and they will sent you the upgraded ECU (this might be an option if you don't have the extra $300 lying around that can be spared until its refunded).

Net

Grounding Net? Is that those cables that hook up throughout the car to improve the resistance factor? I just read up on those. Does it really work?

Yes, I feel the grounding kit did some good.
1) No more hesitation when accelerating from idle
2) You know how sometimes you get that headlight dimming effect when you turn on your air or draw power to another source. That's gone.
3) believe it or not. My stereo system sounds better. It is clearer and I pick up a couple of stations I didn't before installing them.
I'm sure results will very from car to car but I like what it has done for me.
The good news...its a low cost mod that could only assist, not hurt any car.

Go buy the wire, connectors and some nylon ties. Turn on a radio. Open a beer and do it. You will be just fine.
Getting back to the topic of air intake....i found this on ebay. It looks legit. New JWT POP charger. Current bid is $20, but reserve has not been met yet.

Silver brushed ring that fits in the filter? Yeah, they're a Z dealer, they're ok. Little high in the price range but I bought the car like Tuesday and haven't even driven it yet cause I'm waiting to get some stuff done to it. Hey do you have test pipes? Ever attempt a smog with those on?
hehehehe... nope he just took his Z appart and has a bunch of parts on the way... way to go 91
you know what would be funny if he came back and had the same reading, and then 91 goes crazy and the mechanic dude calls a manager, and manager is like oh wait this tester has been dead for a few months ...try this one
