High idle

I know this has been discussed, but I wonder if anyone has come up with a definate answer.

My 93 N/A idles high (around 2,000) sometimes and other times it idles around 800. I can't seem to find any pattern to the high idle (hot, cold, etc.). What are the possible causes? Has anyone else had this problem and successfully fixed it?...what did you do?

I can assume on my own that it is a sensor or a vacume line....I was hoping for more specifics.

Thanks,
Clint

Re: High idle

well start with your assumptions and replace your vacuum hoses.there are just alot of variables that can mess with your idle. run an ECU diagnostic(www.twinturbo.net tech section) and it may help you pin point your problem. it can be your temp sensor causing the troubles...just try the ecu diagnostic first..and see what it says.

Re: High idle

One top for finding vacumn leaks is to get a can of carb cleaners and spray it lightly around the vacumn line areas, then when you hear the idle go up you know you have a vacumn leak.

The problem with this technique is that carb cleaner is flammable, so you can only do this for a minute or two, then let your car cool back down.
