difference of ecu's?

i was wondering if there was any noticable difference between z1's ashpec (?) ecu and jwt's ecu...hopefully someone with an n/a will shed some light on this, but tt owners with either of these mods are welcome to help out too, as the way they make their tt ecu's should reflect their general quality, right?

What a coincidence....

I was just talking about this on another board. Here's what I asked and the response.

so how does the N/A ECU from Ash compare to the JWT N/A ECU? Are the results similar? Why should I pick one over the other if they are, assuming the prices are close?

I beleive it has to do with secondary mapping with lower octanes, making it safer for your engine than the JWT. The JWT has secondary mapping but it is the same as the primary.

If you read the technical info on Z1motorsports.com it will give you the answer you are looking for.

besides that its $300.00 cheaper.

I am in no way advertising for Z1, I have never purchased anything for them, just doing my duty and sharing what I was able to come up with.

How's that? It seemed like a good enough explanation for me.;)

thanks, so which one are you going with? (if you haven't already done that mod)

I was thinking of going with the AshSpec ECU from Z1motorsports. It's only 300 and my Z is going up for the winter anyway. So I won't be missing out if I have to send in the ECU.

Keep in mind that it'll cost only $300 when you send in your ECU at the same time. Otherwise they'll charge you a core charge of another $300.

Robert from Z1 just posted some dyno sheets if you'd like to see a comparison of a JWT ECU and a Z1 AshSpec ECU.

as always thanks for the help

BigLou's300zx Dec 15, 2003 10:42 AM

wow...206 at the wheels for just stage I plus the ecu, they're right, it does sound too good to be true...I wonder how the torque is though...

Riz Z Speed Dec 15, 2003 08:07 PM

I was wondering the same. I absolutely love the the smoothe rpm transitions compared to the JWT ECU though. You see how the JWT plateau's at 5K to 5.7K, while the Ash just keeps on climbing. Also the rev limiter is increased 200rpm.

I'm really liking that ECU right now.

BigLou's300zx Dec 16, 2003 06:21 AM

yea me too, I just hope that it is as good as they say, even if it isn't as good as the dyno shows, it still seems like a better investment than the jwt
