Crank Angle Sensor

1990 300ZX non-turbo.

I tried to search the forums for a solution before i posted this thread with no luck so here goes.

when i got the car it would only pull around 5000rpm and felt like it was running on a restrictor plate or something. courious about the timing i took it to a friend of mine that has a garage to replace the clutch and asked him to check the timing also. he said according to the belt it was in time but the most timing he could get by turning the Crank Angle Sensor was only 5 degrees and it should set around 15. i was told by the mechanic the crank angle sensor was bad and needed to be replaced. if its really at 5 now it runs much better than before but i would guess if it was correct it would a lot better.

question - If it's bad would that be possible to only get 5 degrees of timing?

I don't think so. Check the CAS per the procedure here ---> CAS TEST.
It either works or it doesn't, and it seems to be working for you.

IMHO...... your T-belt is off a tooth or two on at least the d/s exhaust cam. If the car is relatively new to you, I'd suggest getting the t-belt changed anyway.

How long did he have your car? Getting far enough into the job to see all 5 timing marks takes a fair amount of time. I'm guessing he didn't get far enough in to see the alignment marks on the crank pulley. I'm with CC. You're timing belt is off.
