A coupe of Qs for Educational Purposes
I posted this on TT.net, but I'd like to hear from you folks too!
1 - One-Piece driveshaft. I can see the advantages but is it really needed for a TT daily driver other than just bragging rights? And if really needs to get one, isn't a lighter one the only reasonable way to go?
2 - Turbo timer. Here again, I know the reason why one would need it. However, if I'm not spinning at xtra high RPMs on a daily driver and have to coast in city driving at crawl speeds for about an hour before getting home and shutting her down, do I really need a timer? On my Z31 I just allowed the thing to idle for a few minutes before shutting down - 250K+ miles later, no issues with the turbo. But I'm not so sure that will work with two differently sized turbos. I still plan to idle, but maybe a bit longer

turbo timer is a handy investment, no matter what if your driving your car around for a good amount of time the turbo's will get hot and when you stop and you just turn off the car the oil sits in the turbo and bakes. when i had my 260 and i smoked.... ok i still kinda do, id have a cig standing next to my car, that was my turbo timer. problem is people will think you beat on your car if you go to re-sell it and you have a turbo timer on it.
one piece drive shaft is the way to go imho IF you need/feel its time to replace the stock one, otherwise no need. also, the one piece i do believe is lighter
