Compression check on 91TT

Can someone advise on the proper procedure for checking the compression on each cylinder. Between what ranges is acceptable on the compression gauge.

I've searched the threads without any luck.

Thanks much for your help.

Well I know how to do so on Honda's... I've never done one on a Z32, but I'm sure the same procedure applies.

-Remove the Fuel Injection Fuse/Main Relay/Anything that will cut the Fuel to the Cylinder
-Remove the plug wire of the Cylinder you wish to test (In this case, Coil Pack)
-Remove the Spark Plug from that Cylinder
-Insert Compression Test Tool and Gauge
-Turn Engine over about 3 times (For this step you'll need another person)
-Obtain a good reading, and check your manual for proper numbers

It's pretty basic. Good luck.

your numbers should be around 150. you should have any variance (whether it be less or more) than 10% of what it should be.

Also, if they're all pretty uniform, meanign the results are close together between cylinders, then that's a good sign.

186 max, 146 minimum with no more than 15 psi variance, if I remember correctly. I just did this 2 weeks ago.

If you remove all 6 coil packs and plugs together, then you don't have to worry about disconnecting the main fuse to prevent the car from starting.

Good point. Don't forget to disconnect the fuel pump relay.

or you can just disconnect the PTU. I wouldn't say 146 is the minimum, and I've never seen on as high as 186. The FSM actually says 172 is the max for a TT, and I'd say anything over 120 is safe (the higher the better, but lower than 120 and I'd recommend a rebuild of some sort), but no more than ~10psi variance between cylinders.

Not according to the FSM. I'll agree with you on that TT will be less than 186 since it runs a lower C/R than the N/A, but 120 is too low unless you're ok with a car running under peak performance. FSM states 14 psi max variance. 10 of course would be better.
