BLOW OFF VALVE question

Im looking at getting a set of Blow off valves. My question to all you guys is will say a set of HKS ssqv BOVS using stock turbos affect the performance of my car. Will it give my car a rough idle. I have a 93 TT apexi intake, Brullen stainless steel exhaust, JWT ECU, Stainless Steel downPipes and a RPS SPort Clutch. Also which BOV would you guys recommend. Thanks in Advance

I have the HKS installed but havn't driven the car yet because it's still tore down.

Where did you mount the HKS BOVS?? Is that the stock location for the recirc lines?

RPS13_GZ32 Mar 1, 2005 01:18 PM

Yea, i was kinda wondering that myself, how does that model bolt up?

91zxtt Mar 1, 2005 06:29 PM

Yes, it's the stock recirc location. It's supposed to be a direct bolt on with the Z32 kit. No, it shouldn't cause a rough idle. Why do you want BOV's? How much boost are you running?

Well i am planning to put a boost controller in soon but im still running stock turbos so at that point anywhere from 12-14 psi. Will the Bov make a difference at that PSI?

will it make a difference??? What exactly do you mean? BOV's don't add power or performance. Actually having a MAF, the stock recirc valves are more efficient, but your engine will run fine with blow off valves. Unless you are pushing crazy amounts of boost/power there is no need for them. They are pretty much for show/sound, granted some people get them just to get rid of the infamous goose honk the stock recirc's make.

As far as quality, HKS super sequential are regarded as the best, RFL's the loudest...

BOVs do add performance, an aftermarket blow off valve can help hold boost between shifts.

oK the blow off valve goes off when shifting gears and releasing the throttle , right??? Meaning that it blows off the air into the atmosphere, right after you shift, your engine will run rough won't it cause ur computer reads the mass airflow sensor at your intake and correspods with the proper amount of fuel. And the way every ricer does it, they drive hard, shift gears, hears the BOV go off and coasts.. NOT Smart..

WOULDN'T IT BE SMART TO MOVE THE AIRFLOW SENSOR AFTER THE BLOWOFF VALVES THAT WAY YOU CAN BLOW ALL YOU WANT AND YOUR ENGINE WILL ALWAYS RUN THE SAME.

What are you talking about?

If they are doing their jobs they should be doing the exact opposite.

You have no idea what the intake plumbing in your car looks like do you?

To answer your question, no. Stick with recircs.

Ideally you dump the maf and go with a map setup like hondas have. But then you'd need a different ecu too.

Alrite thanks turtleboy.. i know the intake plumbing but wasn't exactly sure if that would fix that problem or not.

It's just the nature of recircs/bovs and maf's and what they do and where they physically are in the intake tract.

To sum the thread up, stick with recircs, unless they start to leak from age or high boost levels, or malfunction.

Hey guys .. i just couldn't stand those recirc valves honking all the time so i installed a set of HKS SSQV BLOW OFF VALVES.. since then there has been 2 times where it sounded like the engine was running to rich ,, not enogh air.. is there any kits or any way to relocate the mas so that its after the bov and wouldn't i need two ? is there a kit for the Z32???THANKS

You can get the BOV recirc kit. I don't know if the honking issue will come back though. http://www.amzperformance.com/z32/?p...26c998d85e037&

ZXDUDE do u have that problem.... i see all the mods u have done to ur car and they are almost the same as mine?? U have the HKS bovs does it ever run rich at idle??? My mods are HKS intake, hks super dragger exhaust, JWT ecu, greddy turbo timer, HKS SSQV BOV, , Z1 hardpipes kit and hose techniques SVH kit

The car idles funny and the RPMs drop spontaneously until it warms up and then it's fine. However, it was doing this before I installed the BOVs. The bovs shouldn't have an effect at idle. They only open when you shift or let off the throttle.

dropit Aug 24, 2005 08:15 PM

so i like the sound of a bov r they going to afect the powor of the car or the top end power

bardabe Aug 24, 2005 09:30 PM

have any of you guys ever heard teh Apex Twin Chamber BOV?

b300z Aug 24, 2005 09:33 PM

the bovs will only release the air pressure to keep from surging the turbos and make that cool sound
theres nothing performance about them
you will need to replace stock recir valves when you get up to rediculous hp because the stock ones cant handle the pressure
