AC and heat problems

OK....When i 1st got my car the ac worked and the heat never did. Its a 1993 N/A. It has the electronic climate control unit in it. I had it in the shop at the local nissan dealer haveing the timeing belt and water bump replaced and to have it tuned up. i had them look at the ac and heat. They said there were no vaccume leak, and they couldnt figure out the problem. All they said they found out was the climate control unit wasn't working right and what was makeing the ac work was a jumper where the relay was supposed to be for the compressor. I bought a new relay and nothing worked except for the blower motor. Can anyone help me out?....iv looked through wiring diagrams and everything and i cant find a problem for myself. I think it might be the thermostat in the climate control unit. Am i wrong? or way off??

thanks, N8
