who says you cant drift the "z"
who says you cant drift the "z"
check out this vid..this was at a local track in PA called beaver run where they steup a drift practice for amateurs like me..im gettin better. oh yea the z is n/a by the way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgixjtLzYMc ... i also read some posts on here about centerforce being a garbage clutch... for the money you cant go wrong.. shes seems to be doing well after many practices and other courses i put it thru check it out tho thanx
it was aight, but your a beginer so w/e right? could use better angle, but thats where its going to be hard, the z was made for staying striaght in a turn, you can drift em ive seen it and ive done it, its just going to take practice.
bumper was in the paint shop at the time no sense in putting it on to accidentally fly off the track and ruin it lol, plus im running totally stock suspension on it after some mods to the rear suspension to stiffen it up it'll be all good. i dunno y nissan had to put so many bushings in the rear for each side of the suspension. i'm gonna eliminate some of those with hyme joints...i think that how u spell it??

Did someone decide to make the useless posts in the lounge not count anymore?
Nissan did the bushing thing
to make the ride softer, remember its a 3500 pound car. Not the best choice for a drifter. Corrolla's are about 1000 pounds lighter and the 240 is about 800 pounds lighter the RX7 is 900 lighter etc etc. that's why you don't even see the 300 in competition, it starts out way too heavy (in comparison). Got to be hell on those inner tires on the turns... you must run through tires like most people do oil changes.

no one ever said you couldn't drift the Z. as a matter of fact, sport z magazine made a 3 part video series about drifting the Z car. I have them on my PC. will upload to youtube if popular demand requests. they are probably already on there.

Well, I go by the notion that if want to something, do it. It is just made more difficult by the Z32.
Also, in the video( i saw that a while ago
) the dude talks about removing the bump stops to get more steering angle. Is that safe? would you have to use spacers or something to get more clearance?
Wierd idea.

Hmm. Well that is good to know.
I knew that spacers were unsafe, but what other ailments arise with the removal of bumpstops on a Z?
Does the steering rack wear out because of the extra travel? Or because of the angle plus the force of drifting at this angle? Or more than likely both?

instead of removing bump stops you could try and find which maybe ridiculously hard but my buddy bought them for his ae86 corolla i didnt see them but they are different tie rods that allow the wheels to turn almost perpendicular to the car to get that extreme angle.. i saw one of his videos but have yet to check out his install and parts. i know it took him awhile to find them for the corolla at the beginning of the year so i imagine it would be hard for the z.. he got that directly from someone in japan i know that much.
Just to clear things up I was thinking more along the lines of 5 to 8 degrees more rotation.
From what I know about suspension geometry in general(which is some), if you applied the breaks(hypthetically), while trail braking( brake drift)... with a 75+ degree of tire movement(which is less than perpendicular), you mighte be driving home on 3 wheels. In a 3400 lb. Z that would be like dragging the tire, instead of actually rotating them. Add the fact that they understeer like a total hog.
I can see how sheering off a wheel, brakes and front suspension could happen.
In a what 2100 lb Corolla? I have know idea
. But it does sound like bad bidness to me...
