about 400-600 Z's sold in the USA, the 1996 was also sold in 1997 about 150 more...if i am correct only 1 in 60 were painted Purple leaving you a choice of about 10-15. Good luck.

japan auctions? so youd go threw the trouble of finding one in japan, import it, and legalize it just for a purple Z32... you know, you could always paint it if your that desperate for one

1996 is the worst year to buy. Engine makes 20 less hp. Some mods won't work on it. Do a search.

Best year for a Z

whatever year you currently own is better than any year you don't own. I think that pretty much says it all. (owned a 1979,1982,1990,1993,1995)

I'd have to say that owning a '96 wouldn't bother me at all. We had this discussion, remember? The VVT was taken out, but at the same time the cams were upgraded, right? Anyways, that'd be my ideal color, too, but that's extremely hard to find. In fact, I don't even know if they produced the purple ones for the U.S. market. I've only seen one purple one for sale, and it was JDM. Then, you have paint issues to worry about. Painting one's easy enough in text, but in truth a true paint job that involves stripping the car down, repainting all of the panels and then reassembling it would cost over 5,000 dollars. It's never perfect if you don't paint it right.

purple was sold here in the US in 94-96.

http://www.ttzd.com/tech/colorstech.html

and goofyz has my answer right now. but, if i had to choose, i would like to get the newest z i possibly can. other factors may keep me from doing that(condition, miles etc.). but i would take a 96 if i had the chance. i dont plan on going past 500hp with one anyways
