tire/suspension issue
 

hello i just picked a 94 n/a last week and have noticed a considerable issue. the drivers rear tire is cutting into the wheel well and or fender. the previous owner put 2005 maxima rims on all of them are 18x8 with an offset of 30. the tires themselves are 245/45-18. i also noticed that all the shocks are originals (car has 200k +). i figured that since it was only hitting on the outer 1/4 inch of the tire it was part of the fender...so i drimmeled it to flush. still cutting into the tire.

so my question is this...since i have a limeted budget should i target replacing the shocks in the rear or should i i get some rims with a different offset? i plan changing out both in the grand scheme of things but we all know its a process...thanks for any and all the help

If you have a limited budget, you should be selling your 300ZX... this is not a cheap car to own.

With that said, you need to get wheels that have proper offsets.

By the way, dremeling your fender is among the worst things I've ever heard of anybody doing to their car. There's a process called "rolling" the fenders that would've saved you from hacking up your Z's sheet metal.

Zlover...i do understand that it is not s super cheap car to own, but i doubt anybody as 500 to a grand to throw at an issue that MAY resolve the issue...

Yes i do admit the dremmling wasnt the best course of action but i did properly seal the metal so as not to create a rust bucket. As far as 18's go what would you suggest for the proper width and offset?

Actually, most Z32 owners recommend having an emergency fund of at least $1000... so yes, lots of people have $500 to $1000 of disposable income to use for resolving such an issue...

As it seems that your +30 offset 18x8s are within spec, I'm actually going to recommend replacing the rear springs and struts (you should do the front, too) before spending money on wheels. But before you spend any money, post pics so I can see how badly worn your suspension is and I may tell you [somewhat] conclusively what you need to do.

And how many miles are on this car?

Zlover, the chassis has about 205k on it. with the tires on it it has about 1.5-2 inches of visual clearance (top of tire to fender) when i bought the car i assumed it had been lowered but as i have inspected the struts they are all oem...so either they got replaced down the line with factory spec...or they are the originals.

well i changed using a guys TT shocks that he put on the sport setting before removing...those along with the thicker Tt springs added about .5-1 inch of lift. but the ride has improved dramatically...went from no shocks to super stiff. this also corrected the tire rubbing issue.
