Subframe Spacers
Hey guys,
I have just purchased some subframe spacers from Z1. They are the ones that have the lower spacer, and the top collars that are "supposed" to slide on... so removing the subframe and burning out the old bushings won't be necessary. And to get to the point, I was wondering what your guys'/gals' opinions are on these little guys. I know what they do, but as far as having some actual substance, besides the claims of Z1, it would be great to hear from you Z'ers! |
If you're wondering whether or not they make a difference,...they do. These cars are notorious for whell hop. The spacers will reduce this, and in many cases eliminate it. These cars have a floating rear end; which has been know to cause things to get a little hairy under hard acceleration in high horsepower applications. The ones that you purchased (upper and lower spacers), in my opinion do a superior job than those that just fit on the bottom of the subframe bushings because they apply pressure to both the top and the bottom of the bushing.

thats what i woulda said but much less detail haha.. i woulda only been able to leave it at reducing wheel hop... and that these cars to wheel hop like a mofo.... but he is just smarter than me and can explain better.... |

hmmmm... sometimes ADHD can keep you workin on your car... you get so focused and full of energy and pull an 8 hour day working eventually... lol...

or, you get sidetracked watching the leaves in the front yard, bright lights in the sky, the neighbors cat and the cow across the street....a job that should've taken 15 minutes winds up taking 8 hours. :wink:

haha.. interesting insight.. but its only 12 degrees hear and with a heated garage... im not able to see the amazing out side world... i have however day dreamed when uner the car trying to put up the tranny crossmember.. but that only lasted 2 minutes. lol....

So I heard that the upper collars are a problem, in the way that I mighte have to pry a little bit... Did you have the same problem 91zxtt? Also, the 17mm bolts, how hard are they it to get of with a socket wrench + WD40?

The bolts shouldnt be hard to get off at all. IIRC they shouldnt have more than 50 ft-lbs on them via the installation guide

I didn't get a guide. But I was under the impression that they were to be put on with 80 lbs. I read that somewhere. and I put them on a few hours ago before reading this... so just on torque them and put them on with 50lbs?
I did drive it already.... and lauched it. Did I break anything you think? |
torque the nut to 65 ft-lbs and the bolts for the brackets to 30 ft-lbs. youll know if you broke something after it sits for a while. i popped a stock one and there was a puddle of goo on the ground

can re-torque the bolt while the car is on the ground?

i wouldnt. just to make sure that they are torqued evenly, unload the subframe
