Smoking and misfiring?
Well, I think most oh you remember that Turbo 2+2 I was working on for a friend? After having to enlarge the pilot bushing hole to get the trans stabbed (I guess auto and 5-speed cranks are different?) I got most of it fixed and my friend took it down to the auto shop to finish it.
after a few months, the auto shop said they would PAY to have it delivered to my friends house and wouldn't charge him a dime for all the work they did. Seems they can not figure out why it smokes HORRIBLY and misfires like mad along with have no power at all. So I get to work on it again :s-chainsaw: I haven't got to look at it yet but. Its apparently smoking like hell (they didn't say what color) and will only once in a blue moon actually run right. I'm taking a shot at saying its some electrical sense the motor did work before the trans swap w/o smoking and such. But I want to here what you guys think about it. |

there the same. the auto just has a spacer "cap" on the end of the crank that you can pop off with with a smack from a chisel/screw driver |

hmm oddly enough tho the hole for the pilot bushing was a bit to small so the bushing would fit on the transmission when not installed. but after it was installed is was smaller the the OD of the transmission shaft. I broke like 4 of them before I managed to get one it

Idk But this 300Zx is a big time oddball...
|
cant really tell much until you know the colour/smell of the smoke. thatl get you pointed in a direction
|
Ya true. I'm assuming tho its probably black smoke.

I just hit new posts and dont see what section there in  I can check if there are different part numbers for the cranks on Tue when Im back at work. (work at Nissan) |

Can I ohm and volt test everything though the ECU connector like I can on an S130? I know this ECU can toss codes but does it check for cut wiring and such?
if I can can someone point me in the right direction? the xenon z32 site's FSM is corrupted and doesn't work. |
First off nvm the above post.
Second is I got that 300ZX today. Turns out the shop removed my modded Autotrans wiring harness and TOSSED IT OUT. so now I have no reverse/neutral switch wiring to the manual trans now. They also cut out the 1k ohm resistor I had inline with the bad knock sensor, oh and cut the connectors off with it *facepalm* then they lost a few relays and the relay cover. Nice huh? Thankfully tho it doesn't smoke or misfire at all. but it is trying to find its idle and it will also nearly die if you even touch the gas at all. Its to dark to pull the codes but there was no no check engine light was on (I find there weird sense the knock sensor inst even hooked up...) So far what do you guys think it is? I'm a little stumped... PS: I can also smell fuel in the engine bay but I cant see any. |
Ok it gave me code 13 and 34. both of which I already know about. I just need to clean the coolant sensor connector. and fix the connector at the detonation sensor.
Hmm.... and it does smoke but very little. and it smells just like really strong exhaust. Im thinking rich. |
So far parts needed at the very lest is a new wiring harness for the TT, new TT fuel pump (its got the n/a one in it now) and maybe a new ECU... How do you tell the diff between an N/A and a TT one?
