Replacing fuel dampener

Today I'll be replacing the fuel dampener. I also replaced my fuel filter last week and turns out I did not go through the process properly. All I did was just clamp the two fuel lines shut and disconnected the filter and replaced it with a new unit. I was told that I should of depressurize the system first and do the replacement.

My question is, do I have to depressurize the fuel system to replace the dampener? How do I depressurize the system?

Or you can do it the hard way and disconnect the relay under the driver side kick panel. The first time I did it this way bc I was a noob back then. =).

You did fine by clamping the line shut. You do not have to relieve the fuel pressure before removing a fuel line. It will relieve itself when the line comes off. I usually wrap a rag around the end of the first line that I'm removing to prevent the fuel from spraying everywhere.

Even if you remove the fuse or relay and run the motor till it dies, there'll still be 30+ psi of pressure in the system.

@napoleonzheking - thanks for the "longcut" lol.

@CanyonCarver - thanks to you too sir . I didn't have any problems by not depressurizing the system before but I was concern since people were telling me I did it improperly.

Again thanks to everyone

Both terms (damper and dampener) are generally accepted for the name of the device that smooths the fuel flow. (Google both and you'll receive info on the same device.)

However, Eric is right, it's technically called a damper. To damper, in physics, is to decrease the amplitude of (an oscillating system).

Ummm.... yes! Physics is one of the most important sciences in the modern world. ^^

Anywho.... some places do call it dampener, but much less than the ones that say damper. It is a common misconception and some how became accepted as normal. It is wrong though. Not a big deal, but i just get bothered by that specific term. Mostly because for the motorcycle people on the kawi forums many times say steering dampener, which its a steering damper. DAMPER!!!!! lol.

Also if you do Google fuel dampener, all but a select few pop up with damper, Google knows your wrong!

It's a car forum... modifying a car to perform better is to modify a car so that it better uses the laws of physics to its advantage...

that was part of my sarcasm.... lol. dude look it up if you don't believe me. a dampener would imply an object that renders things more wet. lol. to dampen: make moist

so dampener would be like, the make moistier or something.
