Production numbers of slicktops? No tee tops....
Hi,
I'm considering purchasing a Z32 for a "fun" car and am interested in a hard top model. However, I find they are not all that plentiful. Are there some production numbers for Z32s in North America? I assume my goal is not impossible to acheive, I've seen some cars out there driving around, but they just aren't "a dime a dozen" or anything like that. Thanks, Ron |
I'm not sure how accurate the numbers are, but there was a total of 2539 slicktops made.
Here are two references ........ JBenders Page .... at the bottom. AZ-Zbumz Page .... You can search by roof type. |
Only approximately 17% of all Z32s were slicktops. And in case you didn't know, they don't came in Twin Turbo - the slicktop was the bare-bones cheap model for the person who wanted a 300ZX but couldn't afford the nice stereo, leather power seats, heated mirrors, etc. (Just thought you might care to know, since you didn't mention if you wanted TT or NA.)

Cheap Bastard Special :) But they are still pretty damn cool... :) Rod. |
have fun trying to find a slicktop...
|
My desire for a slick top has nothing to do with options or twin turbo model. I am evaluating the model for campaigning in SCCA ITR class in which the car is classed for road racing.
If any of you folks know where some "cheap bastard specials" are located at, that are for sale, I'd be much in debt. Thanks, Ron |
you are propably not even going to be able to find a rebuildable one, you can make a t-top car scca legal..
|
you could get slicktops with options... mine had bose stereo and heated mirrors.....
|
yeah, my slicky has the bose, the remote locks, the heated mirrors, and the extra cost optional paint. not a lot of them out there, i have seen 3 in person including mine.

They don't seem impossible to find, just hard to find. There is one on Ebay now, just happened to be in CA and I'm in NC! I saw one a few months back before I was interested in them for about $4k, wish I'd looked closer. The T-top cars can be made legal by welding in a roof, however, if I could get a slick top I'd do that first and use t top cars for parts/spares.

if you are going to road race get a tt then weld the roof. cheaper and more powerful in the long run.

ohhh ok never knew that thanks for the school

there was a slicky in pretty good shape down the street from me last summer... never saw if it sold or not... ill keep an eye out. but im in IL dont know how you feel aboot travelin

Actually, the only 300z classed in SCCA Improved Touring road racing class (VIR, Road Atlanta, Sebring, LMP, Watkins Glen, etc. - road courses) is the naturally aspirated version. It'll run against Porsche 968s, 944 S2s, BMW 330i, 328i, 325i, E30 M3, - lots of fairly stiff competition. The Z also has a fairly high weight too in the class, so there are a lot of things to balance with positive/negative aspects.

Unfortunately this 96 slicktop may go up for sale this spring so I can finish the S30. It did take awhile to find but I wanted somthing without T-tops after a bad experience with a couple of ZX's. Good luck with the search.

I know this is an acient topic. But I just wanted to consider myself on of then luckiest 300zx owners then!
How about a factory, but jdm, slick top, twin turbo, automatic, electric package, 673 color code, and being 1 of two ever made in the entire 300zx production! Yeah, just found out that yesterday. Happy camper I am! :) |

I am not here to claim glory or to act I am better. Just simply showing that there is a configuration of actual existence. Until recent findings, I just thought it was odd myself, but have been extremely enjoying ownership of my FairLady Z32. By knowing this info I had thrown at me recently, it just makes it that more special to me. That's all. Z cars all rule in my book! ;)
