i think this is the right term for it.

its in the front of the engine bay (for me at least)

anyway its a decent size plug - i see two connections, not really sure waht either of them are - aftera serach i couldn't find much. i will post the pics later

anyway - so i spent about 2 hours trouble shooting injector wiring and harnesses and ignitors wiring, themselves yada yada.. well when its all said and done if i stick this little harness and wire bundle in the right place it all works like a dream, if its not in the right place it goes to absolute hell. so there are loose connections all over this thing. Is this something worth replacing , how indepth is it? i don't want to replace it and then still not have it work. 200$ is a lot to not fix the problem. that and i just need the wires i think.

any one else ever have this problem?

good luck for you, it's a recall. Go to Nissan (dealership) and have them check if the recall's been done on your car

so the PTU works just the wiring is bad?
So is there a question there somewhere that i missed?

I thought the recall was only on the 90's.

I had the recall done on my last 91.

Recall was done on my 91.. it doesn't matter if it was done or not, they won't do it now for free. PTU WIRING going bad is a common problem, unfortunatly, you can't buy just the harness. YES it's worth replacing. PTU is like one of the most important eletrical components on the car... can't run without it.....

i've noticed the car doesn't run without it haha

unaware this was a recall - i will look into wether it was replaced or if i can get a free one, doubt i can get a free one after 14 years haha

Mossy Nissan here in El cajon, said they'd replace them if it's never been done on your car. they can look up the VIN. oh and this is for free.

Nissan needs to just start selling the harness sepratly...

sorry, I said replace, I meant relocate, you're right, they won't replace them.

It's called the sub-harness. Nissan still sells the newer style PTU and it comes with the subharness as well. Concept Z Performance has it listed on their site.

But- a simple fix is to simple cut the connectors and hard splice them in. I have done it on about 12 or so cars here locally and it usually always help eliminate rough idle due to the PTU connections and wires to the connectors being overrun with that green residue that interfere with current over time. Mainly due to moisture, time and massive amount of heat being located where it is in stock form. A new trend is to re-run the unit next to the air filter to keep it much cooler, combine that with the wire splicing and any issues with it should clear up if in fact that is the issue.

haha, we'll have to see....watch my habits for a bit and see where they take me. As long as we have bardabeze on this forum, I'll be confuzed.

One word of caution to relocating it, It can get hit with some moisture when driving in a heavy rain. Not much though, I put mine inside the air filter tube since I have a pop charger and hole punched a hole and zip tied it secure, but it still gets hit with some moisture in a heavy rain, especially since my car is lowered. One thing to think about.
Also, when you relocate, make sure you leave plenty of slack on the ECU coolant temp senesor lines and the other one right there, other wise, it puts pressure on them and causes them to break easier and if your ecu coolant temp sensor plug is broke, causes it to come off easier.

I'm a big fan of the relocation, makes the engine bay look alot cleaner less wires running around and stuff.
