Help with my 1990 300zx
So I just bough my z & want to get an engine for it. I was wondering if I could replace the vg30de stock engine with a vg30e stock engine? Also was wondering if I could install an inline 6 engine to it from a 08 BMW.. If possible what would I need to change? Thanks

Z31 = 84-89 300ZX's
Z32 = 90-96 300ZX's
Moved to correct Z32 section.
The VG30E is a huge step backwards from the VG30DE... you'd be wasting a lot of time and money, to downgrade in power and performance.
And which "inline 6" from BMW do you want to install? The 2.5L? 2.8L? 3.0L? ///M? TT?

Please do your research before saying things like that. There's a guy on tt.net who's finishing his RB26 swap right now... after over $20k invested (motor's still mostly stock - it costs that much to get that engine and put it in a Z32). He's said multiple times that if he could go back, he'd have stuck with the VG30DETT. For the $20k you'd invest to drop a stock RB26DET(T) into the Z32, you could build the **** out of a VG30DETT. I put Wiseco forged pistons into my VG30DETT for less than $1500 (start to finish, including gaskets, pistons, machining, and assembling it on my own). You can get Eagle rods for another $520, GT2860RS turbos for ~$3k, Stillen SMIC's for $800, full exhaust for ~$1500, etc... the equally invested VG30DETT-equipped Z32 would DESTROY the RB26DET(T)-equipped Z32. (You can say the same of any engine swap... it is too easy to make power on the VG30DETT to justify putting ANY other engine in.)

If the oil pump is known to be good, there is no reason to change it. It's not even part of any timing kit... (and that oil pump had been replaced when the engine was replaced a year prior - because oil pump replacement is imperative on engines with unknown histories).
