No Brakes!
Hi List.
1991 300ZX 2+2 49,000 miles... babied and pampered... and I get in it today to take it for a spin on a nice sunny Autumn day and as I start down my very long and steep driveway, I go to hit the brakes and the pedal hits the floor slowing me down minimally. I'm glad for a MT and a parking brake or things might have not gone well. I put it in reverse and went back up my driveway and parked it. Where the master cylinder meets the black ABS unit, I can see where the two meet, the fluid escaped from there. Is there a gasket between the two that could have possibly deteriorated? Funny thing is, the last time I took it out, it was fine with no indication of problems. When I look at the spot I had it parked in, the fluid stain on the driveway is not fresh... meaning it didn't give when I got in the car today... it had to of started leaking since the last time I drove it (a week ago) while sitting still, unused in my driveway. Anyone else have a leak at this location? Will unbolt the master tomorrow and have a look, but I'm hoping it's just a gasket. Thanks. |
Thats not an ABS unit thats a brake booster. and it seems like your master cylinder just blew out its seals. Remove it and replace it with a new one then bleed the brakes out good. And you should be alright! Glad you weren't driving on the road.

Regarding the master cylinder, Nismo sells rebuild kits for $81. Do I drop $200 + on a new mc or go with the rebuild? I guess when I have it apart tomorrow, I should be able to tell if it's seals or something else (like a crack) that would require a new MC anyway. |
Just get a new M/C, rebuilding a M/C is very difficult to get right and uninstalling and reinstalling the M/C on the z32 is a pain.
