Muffler temp and other random question
Muffler temp and other random question
First of all, want to say thinks for everyones help in the past...
Picked up a used Borla exhaust with some slight rust on the hangers. Was gonna wire-brush off the rust and then paint it to ward off any future rust. Just around that area and maybe on the rest of the mufflers. I already have some Duplicolor Engine Enamel that says it will withstand intermittent temps up to 500 degrees. Will this be ok or do the mufflers get even hotter than that? I wouldn't think they do, but mufflers is not one of the things it lists as the paint being good for.
Other question, anyone else have a problem with the inside of their rear window getting really dirty? I'll clean it and a week later there will be a layer of something on it.

500 degree paint is sufficient for mufflers. Make sure to sand and prime or it'll flake off easily (yes, I have experience with that).
As for the dirt on the rear window, you may have a bad seal around the hatch or tail lights that is allowing carbon from your exhaust to get in. No easy way to diagnose this... if you have a friend with a fog machine, fill the car with fog while it's in a garage and look to see where it leaks out from. I'd say you could also try a smoke bomb, but those smell far worse than fog.

Thanks good to know i can use the paint i already have. Guess i need to go pick up some high heat primer though.
No access to a fog machine. I do have aruba daves windshield wiper delete which i installed a while back with some silicon sealant. But i suppose a leak may have formed there recently. No visible wet spots or anything though.
