ls1 swaps

sorry about another thread, but a sweet deal popped up but it needs a new motor... so i was jw, ik the RX-7 guys do the corvette LS1 swaps all the time. I've seen some zx's with the ls1 and in the sale thread, he said a new motor costs about 1600-2000, but i feel like a new motor would cost way more... and about how much is it for labor to swap in a new motor? along with what would it cost compared to a TT zx motor to swap in a LS1? is it pretty straight forward or what?

I'm probably not going to pull the trigger cause the cars in cali and I'm in NY but I've always been curios

It would be pretty cool, but I think the LS1 requires a lot of fab work. $$$

Let me google that for you

:D

Sorry, didn't know what it was to swap it in. And just looking at a general hour time to have a z32 swapped in

google doesn't really come up with anything... whats the deal with JDM? all i see on other forums is they are junk! wheres a good place to pick up a TT motor? the car I'm looking that only needs new turbos, but i guess its cheaper to swap the whole motor? whats more difficult if i want to try to do it myself? i feel like if i just buy an A/M turbos or oem turbos and swap them out with out pulling the motor? because they look they are pretty straight forward to get at... what would be easier to yank the motor or just swap the turbos? and who should i contact to get ahold of quality parts?

315driver 07-11-2012 07:19 PM

i feel like just swapping the turbos would be the way to go? thoughts on that?

thinking of these turbos
GT525 Turbo Kit

but not sure how much a GOOD TT motor is

slicktop96 08-06-2012 07:35 PM

u should look into doing the VH45de swap

Rupe 08-07-2012 12:41 PM

How did you get from "needs a new motor" to "i feel like just swapping the turbos would be the way to go"?

315driver 08-12-2012 03:12 PM

well the guy on the ad said that turbos went bad so causing car to smoke... but i guess his mechanic said itll be cheaper to swap a motor than to replace turbos? but the guy never messaged me back nor emailed me so it not gunna happen. still want one of these cars though so bad

Being that I am new to the forum I figured this is as good a place to put my first post up as any, as I am the new owner of a recently acquired 1992 Z32 TT. I also actually own an FC3S RX7 convertible with a V8 Swap and a T56 conversion as opposed to the T5 (It's a 5.0 Cobra Stroker motor so it's really a 347 at this point) ANYWAY! The point is......While the LS1, LS2, LS7 is a GREAT swap for the FC and FD RX7 (due to the 13B Rotary just being too damn expensive to rebuild frequently and a shrinking supply of expensive parts), I think it's more for the wow factor in the Z32. I have many reasons for this, but first and foremost would be the downtime you will experience. IF I was going to do the swap, I would come up with a segmented list of parts needed for the swap and buy all of it before attempting the swap. It's not the major players that cost the most money and time.....it's all the small things you take for granted and the ingenuity and fabrication required, that the person that sold you that swap kit didn't mention or left as assumed. The thing about swaps is that most people get 50%-75% of the way thru and quit, part it out or sell it. Take that for what it's worth, as I have a completed swap with F.A.S.T standalone that started out as a 2 month project that morphed into 2+ years. Good Luck
