HID Installation (Pic Heavy!)
 

Well, as we get closer to summer I have a few projects lined up and one of them were these HID installs. I know there are a few writeups about this but I wanted to share my personal experience on its installation.

Tools Used:
10mm Socket w/ extension
Phillips Screwdriver
Small flathead screwdriver

Time:
~1hr

Cost:
$68.98

I ordered this set from eBay. I wont list the seller (unless requested) but you can find them by searching for "300ZX HID". The set I bought showed a pic stating "Shipped $68.98 US seller".

Specs:
Bulb Type: 9006
Color Temperature: 6000k

Installation is very straight forward.
1. Install bulb into headlamp assembly.
2. Connect power connector extension from HID kit to factory lamp connector.
3. Connect opposite end of power connector extension to HID ballast.
4. Connect HID ballast harness to HID bulb.

NOTE: The power connector extension had the + and - backwards. I turned the connector around as pictured above and it works. Be careful though, on the other side is a larger piece of metal that the connector latches to. If you force it you could break the connectors latch.

Location:
I've seen a few posts where people bolt the ballasts next to the air filter. The wiring in this kit wasn't long enough so I needed something closer.

Drivers side: HID
Passenger side: Halogen

Note: The SUV has standard Halogen lamps.

Conclusion:
The ballasts emit a slight humming noise when activated. You can only hear it when the car is turned off so its not a big deal. The pictures make the HID look a bit bluer than they really are and the halogen quite bit whiter. In reality, the halogen lamp is more of an amber color. I don't really see these as high beam replacements because of the narrow spread, but they do improve visibility and that was the whole point of this install.

Nice. I like the write-up because it's the first I've seen showing the positioning of the ballast other than in the air-box. I like it as tomorrow I will use this positioning. Thanks.
