First car!!
First car!!
Hey guys im shopping for my first car. A 300zxTT is definately my dream car but they arent exactly cheap and from what ive heard very difficult to work on. I like to think im mechanically inclined and my family owns a mechanic shop so I have anything I need. Anyway ill shut up and tell you whatsup. I have 6 grand and still saving. I want a clean car with low miles. I know thats hard to come by with such a low budget but ive accepted im starting off with a stocker. So if anybody has one for sale let me know! Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Josh.
it's not that crazy hard to work on. it's "unique" to work on. there is a specific knowledge base needed to conduct educated and effective repairs. if you get one, don't ever underestimate the info you can find on this forum, and tt.net.
the price: i find that it's much more important not to get a low mileage car, but one that has been well cared for. 120k-160k is not crazy if the maintenance has been well kept up with. there are people pushing big HP numbers on blocks with over 200k, and people running stock cars with over 300k on the original engines. they hold up well, but maintenance is honestly pretty intense, so if it's been slacked on, you're going to be spending a lot of extra money on it.
don't get a n/a. you're soon going to want more power out of it and it's not cost effective to turbo swap, convert, or upgrade your n/a. a tt on the other hand has a mountain of potential. for fairly small sums of money, you can make upgrades here and there that will make great improvements on output. though, the n/a, as well as the tt, offers a lot of fun to be had with the suspension.
your plan to start with a stocker for cost reasons doesn't really compute. an all stock car is generally worth more than a mildly upgraded one in the same condition. a stocker is a good idea for the reason that nobody has taken the opportunity to upgrade it improperly. that said, it's still a good idea to get a stock car, but not for the reason of cost.

ya might wanna consider going to the local track, often you can buy cars already moded for less than you could build one. Guys change their minds about what they want and sell off what they have all the time. Rules change too.
^^^^ ehhh... i dont like buying cars with modifications already done, unless its like a exhaust and intake (using good brands that is) otherwise you don't know what they might have done or how crappy of a job, and the Z32 is especially fickle with half assedness mods. and while i say you can find a TT, being your first car, it is probably best off you go with an NA until you learn to drive more competently. plus with a TT and being 16 id imagine the temptation to race would be ever so overbearing. and Louisiana huh... not sure what the Z32 market is like out there but seems further south you are the better things are priced.
If one buys a car at the track, chances are one can see if it works or not.

not really sure what your point is with that, but for a 16 year old, getting to drive the car at a track is just going to booty blind him and not allow him to make a good choice on whether the car has been upgraded effectively. it's far preferable to get a stock car.
As to what's better for somebody other than myself, I think I'll just settle for laying out the facts and letting them decide.
