Engine Knocking

ok got the car home found out the guy disconnected his fuel pump and never hooked it back up got it running and found out that everything electrical and mechanical was working.....i started the engine and realised that the engine was knocking....i'm not sure what it is as of yet i was wondering if anyone has any idea of what it might be

Could be a lot of things. Bad fuel, off timing, rods.

I think a messed up flywheel could cause a knock too.

Is it a KNOCK or is it like a tapping sound?

Ive heard of a slight valve tap being pretty common with these motors.

run the codes too.

it's a knock that increases along with the throttle....as i press the throttle the knocking get faster

run the codes, could have an issue with your knock sensor.

islandtuner242 09-27-2010 03:25 PM

just finish running the codes and this is what i got:

13* engine coolant temp. sensor circuit

islandtuner242 09-27-2010 03:30 PM

but that still doesn't explain the knock

Change the oil and use thicker oil, if it still continues narrow down the area where the knock is.

islandtuner242 09-27-2010 03:49 PM

the sound seems to be coming from the passenger side further back closest to the battery

High or low pitched? A lot of people (read: idiots) describe ticking as knocking. Ticking is valves, knocking probably means you have bad crank bearings. The former requires an oil change and a nice long WOT highway run to build up oil pressure to force the air out; the latter requires a rebuild.

it's definitely a knock... i've looked up some videos and their "ticking" sounds nothing like my knock

Time to buy a set of bearings, a FSM, rent an engine hoist, and free up a weekend.

If you plan on replacing the engine and not rebuilding it, you can use some thinner gear oil in the motor to quite it down. Only do it, if you are replacing the motor all together though, as gear oil is nasty.

well changed the oil and the sound seemed to lessen like it was slowly getting better.....but wth imma just get a new motor and call it that
