Coolant leak info
 

I recently discovered a coolant leak on my 96 TT

It;s coming down the back of the motor over both sides of my tranny, heaviest flow is on the driver side. Once is lessens up it's only on the driverside. Its not very much coolant but I fear it'll get worse so I stopped driving it.

I can't see where it is leaking from, didn't appear to be the heater hoses. Any diagrams that are specifically of the rear coolant lines. I was told there are quite a few on the back of the motor.

Will the only way to find the leak be to remove my intake manifold to get a better look?

Man I have 98K...if only it was closer to 120K I'd just do my next 60K Service and have all the hoses replaced then.

Two big hoses
 

Besides the heater core hoses you have hard lines from the back of the water pump that branch off there and go around the back of the engine on both sides to the turbos. I am betting that the leak is on one of the heater hoses and its on the bottom of the one of the hoses so right near where the metal lip is. I am betting this becuase if it is one of the hardlines you will have to drop the transmission to get at it, at least I think that is the easiest way. I'm sure someone else knows a better way if there is one.

Found out my pre cats are loose @ the turbo's :s-chainsaw: possibly could this heat of dryed up/cracked a coolant line...also do I have to drop my tranny to tighten these nuts/bolts???? I hope not

might as well drop the tranny so you can fix the coolant leak. the coolant you should have back there are the heater core hoses (could be coming from lower down on them where they bolt to the other hard lines) or the turbo coolant lines...

I figured if the tranny was dropped the coolant lines would be accessible...dam I don't want to do this in my garage

you will possibly be able to get t0 the leak with the tranny dropped. just be thankfull you have a garage.

unbolt the motor mounts and undo the EFI harness and anything else holding the motor and you can put some tension on it and lean it forward about 6" or so and get some more room behind the engine.
