ac belt melted off

so i recently just got this 93 300zx na auto 2+2. the ac didnt work and i looked under and saw there was no belt around the compressor so after about 2 hours and lots of cussing i finally got the ac compressor belt on. I turned it on and it was screeching really bad but the ac worked perfect and then the compressor started making this weird noise but went away after a few minutes , so i decided to go get belt spray at autozone and a mile down the road i smelt burning so i pulled over and sure enough the ac belt burnt off and got caught in the fan hitting the plastic FML!!!

my question is did i over tighten the ac belt? i tightened the tensioner pretty tight but i didnt think it would burn it what did i do wrong any help would be appreciated thanks.

have you tried rotating the a/c compressor by hand? it sounds like you might have a bad bearing or something keeping the compressor from rotating freely.

if you have a spare belt, route it around just the a/c pulley (not the idler pulley or crank pulley) in order to keep your hand away from the fan. turn on the engine, and the a/c. using the belt, try to spin the a/c compressor pulley.

see if you feel tightness (shouldnt be too bad when spinning it slowly) or if it feels rough, like something is grinding. you might want to take it in. if it doesnt want to spin at all, you definitely should bring it in, or just replace it.

Check the idler pulley it may be ceased and gets hot from all the rubbing and melted the belt happened to me once

ok i checked all pulleys and they spin freely. i went out for a little drive this morning and i was stopped at a red light and the car suddenly started misfiring and overheating??? i pulled over and i see a little smoke coming from left side motor by the ps pump. so i wait 5 min start it back up and the misfiring went away but still overheats. what did i do wrong now?:037:
