300zx struggles on start up then dies
Hey everyone, I'm new here and I'm in need of help. I just bought this Z a few days ago and I had to get it towed home. I bought it as a project so I can learn about this car, then when I'm ready, I'll sell it and buy a more fresh one. But I have a question. My car can't or barley holds an idle for a couple of seconds then it dies and back fires a little. Yesterday it was running, but it was running rough, and every time the engine would get under a load ( from letting off the clutch and adding gas ) it would stall. Then backfire a little and come back to life. Last night I was changing my spark plugs, my friend did the first 4 for me and I did the last 2 by myself when he left. But to get to the last two plugs I had to remove this black bar. I removed it, put the new plugs in, and put it back. I didn't try starting it after I did that. I waited until the next day. And now it barley starts. Any idea?
Welcome to Z driver!
You will want to pick up a free factory service manual at XenonZ32.com Reference along with the other useful docs there. Our Z32 pros will refer to them as they make suggestions.
For starters, your manual is loaded with inspection and troubleshooting pages that are easy to follow and may give you some ideas on where your problem originates. It's only a machine looking for your help to run right. Right?
Post some photos when you get a chance and let us know how we can help. Don't hold back valuable info about the car - like the year, body style, transmission type, mileage, aftermarket mods, etc. Helps to zero in on the problem.
Thanks and welcome!
