300zx rb25det swap
hey everybody,
I've always liked all the Z's and I currently am driving an audi TT looking for something faster and I recently came across a 300zx with an rb25det swap and a claimed $50k worth of work done. the turbo's also been swapped with a T4/60-1 garrett. Are there any problems with a swap like this? I havent driven the car yet, but i'm extremely interested but not sure if I'm going to be buying someone elses headache or not. Anything I should look for or ask the seller in particular with work like this done?
Thanks,
Mike

#1: Moved to the Z32 forum.
#2: Ick... it's a 2+2.
#3: "Skyline Z" is only something a ricer would put on his car. "RBZ" is a much better name.
#4: I don't see a boost controller... I imagine it has one...
#5: $50k in upgrades, taking a $30k loss??? Hum...
Anyway, it would be a fun car as long as the swap was done correctly. I personally wouldn't spend $20k on it tho.

thank you, I would probably rather have the 2+2 because I need to take more than one passenger sometimes. does this look sketchy at all though?
does a car like this generally have a lot of problems? If i drive it and it seems like it runs wel and everything works properly than does that indicate that the swap was done correctly?
how much power does something like this produce? I think I read somewhere one of these garrett turbos is good for around 500 hp but I'm not expert.
Bottom line I just dont want to buy a car like this and have tons of maintenance problems all the time where its hitting me in the wallet every few weeks. I have a TT now with over 100k miles... and maintenance is TERRIBLE with that car. hope this wouldnt be worse
Thanks for all your guys help I appreciate it.

Don't buy a Z32 if you don't want to deal with maintenance. x2 don't by a Z32 w/ an RB swap if you don't want to deal w/ maintenance. Buy a Honda Civic and change its oil every 3k miles... that's a trouble free car.

so something like this would be a horrible dd? lol if I turn the boost down a good bit and run it soft i guess I'm still going to have to work on it a lot or no? I dont know too much about these types of engines, but I'm sure I'll learn quickly.

RB motors are as expensive as a Lamborghini motor... you cant exactly go to autozone, advance, or anywhere local to get parts for this motor, tranny, etc. You will have to order parts from japan, pay the international shipping and it is expensive. since you were not there for the swap and basing the questions and answers you have posted, you have no idea about the fundementals of mechanics or Custom Fabricating, So if something does break, or something doesnt look right, you wouldnt know what the first step of fixing it would be or what it would look like. I would say Dont buy this car if you dont have 50k extra to fix or pay a professional to fix it for you. your TT 300zx is a great car, that should be enough, and with a few thousand put in, you can have a pretty fast car..
