1990 300zx N/A

Hey everyone!
My names JD and I am currently looking into purchasing a 90 300zx with one owner and 90k miles. Its an old guy who is actually my neighbor and he bought it brand new when it had 14 miles on it. Its been sitting for as long as I can
remember. i moved to texas in 2005 and i have never seen it leave his driveway. It has a flat tire and he said the battery is dead. Also been repainted because it was in a minor accident. He wants 3,000 for it. I wanted to know what your guys opinion on it was? I test drove it and it shifts smooth, the stereo doesnt work but i have an aftermarket one, there is an exhaust leak but i will be putting an aftermarket one if i get it. Also it does not want to go past 5k rpms when im driving? im thinking its due to fuel injectors? i live in pearland tx and if any1 lives close, i was wondering if you can come with me and check it out! much appreciated.

so you drove it with a flat? well if it idles very smooth and at 750, that is good. the low rev limit is not too good. is it smooth up until that point? honestly, i think a car that's been sitting is going to be a bit more work then you want to tackle. it may be great for a month or so, but sitting is terrible for a car. mine was supposedly perfect when i bought it... i've spent an additional 5K on it since then. and i've only put 11K miles on it

yes it is smooth until 5k. For example if im in 1st and i try to redline it to 2nd it wont go jus stops at 5k and like tries to go but doesnt. I will get the 60k done and the drive belts, sparkplugs, fuel filter changed for under $1000. I get the oem parts and this nissan tech i know ill install it. Just the not revving past 5k is im thinkng fuel injectors. no i did not drive it with a flat. I changed out the tire with the spare and put an extra battery i had at home in it to make it start and run. I drove it 70 miles and nothing other than the 5k rpm thing was a problem.

3k, low miles, yeah I'd buy it. Hell if it turns out to be junk you could part it out for more than that. And as far as fitting in it, I'm 6'6", 350 pounds, I fit in my 93 just fine with the seat all teh way back and leaned a bit. Course my drivers seat is bent now...but that's an entirely differant story...

I don't know what you plan on spending $1000 on, but if you've got a buddy deal with a nissan tech, the parts for the 60k maintenance are pretty inexpensive. There is no way it should cost $1000. I think we paid just under $1000 incl tax for the craptastic dealer to do the 60k maintenance on our car. Granted, the dealership employees were hacks, but its a pretty standard thing, and the pricing should be pretty standard too. If you've got a side deal with the Nissan tech then make sure he isn't screwing you. Others will have more insight on what it should cost. If the guy isn't working on shop time then there is no one to cry to if he screws up your car (and there is a decent chance of this). Also, if the guy is going to work on your car on shop time (ie you're paying the dealer) don't go out and buy the parts, the dealerships parts department won't like that and it will likely cost more. Good find though! Maybe you said, but please tell me its a manual.

what are you talking about? first of all a good basic 60k kit from either concept z or z1 is like $500 (belts, water pump, pulleys, auto tensioner, etc) . add that to labor and you are looking at around $1100. second he said he is paying for 60k service for under $1000. so its at least 10% off what the reg price costs. id say he isnt getting a shabby deal.

well here come the problems
the car will not rev past 2500-3000 rpm's
it barely moves when i drive it. it goes like 20 mph and eventually stops
changed the sparkplugs, fuel filter, coolant flush, fuel injection cleaner, and replaced the alternator. the idle drops and goes back up drops and goes back up. sometimes drops so far down the car will shut off. when i replaced the alternator do you think the belt is too tight? when the cars rpms surge the lights dim. maybe i should check that first huh?
i cleaned the tps, cas and the maf. even put one in from another z and still the same problem!

the things you checked also usually cause rough running, like a miss, because they stop completing a circuit to a plug. check things that affect the whole engine. i'm not explaining it very well, but check things like the TPS, MAF, the idle control units on the back of the plenum, maybe the fuel pump, to name a few
