Wheels

I'm guessing this topic has been covered, but I'm thinking about wheels of course so I can fit bigger brakes. I don't want to go cheap necessarily, but I'm not really prepared to spend $3,500 for wheels and tires right now.

I have been thinking about these "Tenzo R" wheels from wheelsnext.com:

http://wheelsnext.com/images//wheels...6V1_GM_2_W.jpg

Their pretty cheap, for a staggered set with tires they are $1399. However, I know for that price the tires will likely be low end. Of course, these are not my "ideal" wheel... if they were just plain brushed aluminum I'd be happy. I'm not in to *bling* at all. For example, I really like the 5-spoke Enkei's that are pictured with the white Z32 on the front page of zdriver.com - but from what I can find they are no longer produced...

I'm wondering if I'd be better off just buying a good set of tires now (Yoko's) (as I do need tires) and rolling on the stock wheels for another year or so. At least that way I don't break the bank trying to do all of the suspension stuff & wheels all at once...

You're right! :D If you go to the SEARCH button & type in something like "wheels" "rims" "tires" or something like that, you will find mucho! :D

Yes, I know :)

It's funny, some forums I subscribe to (for various interests) have members that I refer to as "Search Nazis" that get pretty bent out of shape when someone asks a general question that has been covered at length.

What I find interesting, is that a forum is (or should be) more than just a depository for information, but also a place where people interact and share ideas, experiences, etc. Otherwise, all forums could be "turned off" to new posts and simply have a front page notices that reads:

ALL INFORMATION YOU COULD POSSIBLY WANT HAS BEEN POSTED OVER THE LAST X YEARS. NO POSTING WILL BE PERMITTED, USE THE "SEARCH" FUNCTION INSTEAD OF PARTICIPATING IN THIS ENVIRONMENT, CAMARADERIE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

LOL... :038:

What I find so interesting is the people who get bend out of shape when someone tells them to search, instead of being spoon fed. :D Anywho... carry on, there will be Z32 members who can help you out. :D

well, are you looking for just nicer rims? or performance rims? if just nicer then find something now you like such as those, if your looking for performance rims, expect to pay more towards 2K for the set with out tires such as volks. in which case then YES you should just get new tires and save for the rims for next year.

I special ordered some Volk GTS in mercury silver. Only another 2 months to wait.

LOL ...... and your little thread turned into how many pages? :D

Goofyz 06-23-2007 12:23 PM

um

another option is the A.Z.A. Z1 if you like the 5 spoke design, pretty good quality rim. about 18-21 lbs depending on the size you decide on.

I just checked, 7. Mother would be so proud.

I've decided to just buy a set of tires and ride on the stock wheels for a year or so - I don't want to settle for some cheap wheels that I won't be happy with. I really like these:

http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...1955_305111964

And will just save up to buy the wheels and BB upgrade and knock it out over a weekend. As for performance/nicer - I want lighter-than-stock rims that look great. We all know the story, less rotating mass = faster acceleration, better fuel economy, blah blah blah.

And NismoPick - I'm not looking to be spoonfed anything, just want to stir up a little dialogue in the group!

That's a great looking wheel! I'm not crazy about the "rivets" around the perimeter, if it did NOT have those I'd order a set right now! It's too bad they don't offer the staggered setup for our cars though - are there many people just doing 18 x 8.5's all the way around?

snwbrderphat540 06-23-2007 03:07 PM

there probably are, but i like the staggered look (im thinking 8's up front 9's in rear... but thats on a 260) but also in our other wheel thread we did have a huge consencus that 17" rims is the way to go, and then if i had a TT id probably go 8.5's up front and like maybe 10's int eh rear.

scott_91tt 06-23-2007 03:55 PM

I've looked at 17's, unfortunately there are very few options compared to 18's :(

I don't really have a preference either way frankly. If I saw a set of 17's I liked there'd be no complaint from me.

Did a bit more checking, these are offered in a staggered set up... hmm.

CanyonCarver 06-23-2007 05:17 PM

Those are my favorite wheels....... I went to buy a different brand of the same style, and when I went to order them, I was told they wouldn't fit. I've learned otherwise since. My kid might put those on his Z.

http://www.wheelmax.com/_images/products/az1.gif

The wheels I now have are 18 X 8's with a +35 offset. I should have gone with the +20 that was available. I'm running 255/35 tires on these wheels.

The NISMO wheels are very nice.

Goofyz 06-23-2007 07:27 PM

Staggered special (just like Days of Thunder)

4 Attachment(s)
Whoa....slow down, they do offer and in fact specialize in staggered offsets for our cars. You can get a 22 for the back and a 43 in the front and further offset it with 9.5s in the back and 8.5s in the front if you wish. But if you are looking for lighter than stock you will pay a bit more than for AZA wheels. (those Nismo's are nice)

I went with these on mine (not staggered) they were WAY back ordered or i would have got the staggered version. Like these on the Black Z

MikeZ 07-02-2007 05:29 PM

aren't nismos like $3000+? crazy amount of money to spend on a non-race car. But they would be my choice if i had money to toss around:)
