Weight
Hey guys I love the Fairlady Z's, especially the 300 ZX TT (Z32). It is a two door, two seater with a V6, but why is it so heavy. I love the cars aerodynamic look and the rear end is gorgeous. Everything is perfect, but it weighs a lot (for a two seater). Why?

Because the car is safe and doesn't have much chassis flex. That and 3600 pounds isn't very heavy compared to just about every sports car manufactured since, especially when you look at how little plastic is used in the z32.
Put it this way, even the new z06 vette with an all aluminum motor, aluminum chassis, plastic and fiberglass body panels it still weighs more then the z32. That and the motor is what's the real killer in weight for these cars. Handling, power and reliability come before weight in a sports car. |
thank you that makes a lot of sense :)

Thought it was 3400lbs

ya its like 3300 something... about 3400. But is it a cast iron block with cast iron heads or are the heads at least aluminum?
|
On a side note, are the crank, rods, and pistons forged? does anyone have a photo of the stock pistons? I'm curious about how they're shaped.

Here's a pic of rods and pistons out of a TT. http://forums.nicoclub.com/wtb-z32-t...s-t543243.html ALOT of the weight in the z32 TT is in the motor, a set of tubular manifolds, pulley set, turbo back exhaust, smog system and HICAS system in the engine bay adds up quick. |
great to know thanks a bunch :)
