coil overs

Ive read a lot of what you have all said about how coil overs are mostly a racing thing, but, is it worth it to replace them for the handling aspect.

I ask this because I putt bigger rims on my car and the handling is way worse then what it used to be. Would it be worth it to me to replace both the shocks and springs or just replace the shocks. I could see the benefit of lowering the car a small amount so it closer to the ground, but lets face it, the car already is pretty low.

Im not really interested in the car looking good because of its new stance, its a Z, it already looks good. I just want my old handling back.

how big are your new rims? and did you make sure to get bigger wheels to go with those bigger rims?

did you go with cheaper tires? tires are a big factor with handling.

I'd like to get a set of tein flex or tein ss coilovers. I'm leaning towards the SS because they're cheaper and still have adjustable ride heighth.

If your going to get coilovers get the Tein EFDCs with the EDFC controller. 16 different levels of electronically controlled dampening force at your finger tips PLUS adjustable ride height.

Murph Z32 04-30-2008 05:45 PM

You can buy the efdc controller and adjust the dampening force on the SS.

The rims are 18's and the tires are Potenza RE05? or re somethings, theyre not garbage

EDFC is not a coilover

sailorjason 04-30-2008 06:23 PM

I meant the SS coilovers. I couldn't remember which name they go by so I said the EDFC ones.

Murph Z32 04-30-2008 06:32 PM

The link I posted above has the best price on them I've seen. Too bad I have to change the timing belt.

I'm not quite ready to sell it yet. It's gathering dust in the corner of the garage. It's somewhat depressing actually. There's a shop in town that I've heard some good things about. I friend of mine took his '93 NA there for a timing belt change and fuel injector replacement and he was happy with them. I may take mine there and have them take a look at it to see if they can figure it out. I'm still trying to decide if actually want someone else to work on it. Nobody has touched that car since I owned it besides my dad and I. I just don't have the time to diagnose the minor issues anymore. It's almost to that time of year where I wouldn't drive the car anyway since it's too hot. I'd like to start driving it again in September.

I did see an '04 Z06 for sale up here for about $34k. I actually contemplated it for about 15 minutes. The wife and I are talking about kids. Kids and a Z don't mix,....for the most part. I've got a honeydo list 5 miles long. There are a gazillion things I want to do around the house; which unfortunately are more important than the Z.

OH thats a cop out, if the rear seats in a Z are good for anything it's either a gallon milk jug or a small child. Assuming you have access to a 2+2. :unibrow:

The mentality that comes with it. Not to say you will have it, but you know what im talking about. Its not as bad as what I like to refer to as "Mustang Mentality" but its up there.

pft... I have several buddies w/ Corvettes... they are FAR from any kind of "Mustang Mentality."

FYI... a Z06 is a Corvette. :D Any yahoo who can get a C5 can get a Z06...

Anyone who shames a Corvette is no true racer, or sports car enthusiast.

you do realize there is a mentality attached to every car

91zxtt 05-05-2008 09:11 PM

Very true that every car has a mentality attached to it. Some are far worse than others. Some may say that a Z06 is a massaged Corvette; just like some will say that an SRT-4 isn't a NEON.

The other thing that I would possibly consider is an M5. It's in the same price range, but it's 4 doors so it's a little more family friendly. I'm likely 5-10 years away from being able to realistically consider either one of these cars. I need to get the Z running right and get it to pass smog. Then I can enjoy it for 2 years before I need to smog it again. Just need some time.....time which I don't really have.

Now you're talking. There's 3 E39 ///M5's in my area for sale in the $25k range... If I could only find a real reason to buy one...
