Best Tires for the Z cont'd....
 

So, I've read the post on the best performance tires for the Z. I would like to get an idea of brand and what kind of milage everybody is getting out of their tires. I average 30k miles / year and I don't care to be putting new tires on every year.

When I get my new wheels (at the time I need new tires) (getting close), I want some decent tires that wear well. I plan on putting some street legal track tires on my old stock wheels later. :burnout:

What do you recommend? (pep boyz futuras?)

I can go about 25k miles on my Michelin Pilot Sports.

Does anybody else buy tires for their Z's?

I'm even thinking of switching the old tires on the rims to move the worn insides to the outside. For $40-$50 I can probably get another 10k miles out-of-em.

The BF Goodriches I've had on the back are still in better condition than the Kumhos in the front. The BF's are about 1 1/2 years older. Go figure.

I'd guess this is because of the rather extreme castor / camber settings that these cars have. Thaz why I won't go staggered wheels, so that I can rotate the tires to maximize mileage. Do the Kumhos produce alot of road noise? Do they grab the lines in the road much?
The Yokohamas that came on my car are pretty noisy.

Bf Goodrich GForce ta KDW (the neat wet weaather cool flame design) i love this tire... road noise is acceptable but it's the grip and the looks of this tire i love... 20k km and i still have a good amount of life on them... i will replace them in the spring

Forgot the model, but my old Ventus tires always wore rather well, lengthy tires, or Toyo Proxes.

Yeah those KDW's is what I have on my Z. They're a full year older than the Kumho's i used for the front's and still have more tread/better wear.

Since nobody seems to buy tires for their Z's......... I was searching around and came across this bit of info.

Well, its not exactly what you want but I just dropped 600.00 on a set of bridgestone bizzak ws50 for winter. I am currently waiting for my street tires to were out. Yoko's up front, Fulda's in the back. Came with the car.

Looks like I have to consider the Goodyear F1's next time. They ranked higher in the survey than the PS2's and are less expensive.

Yep thats what i have and i love em. Great dry and wet performance and very sticky .. get these tires..

Bridgestones and BFGs are the best I have found. Originally, i was running Kuhmo 711 combined with a decent set of Bridgestone Re90s on stock wheels when I bought my first NA Z. But those Kuhmos sucked. No matter what the weather was they didnt get traction. If I had them in front, i had understeer. If they were in the rear, I had oversteer (which made for some fun drifts). Right now I am runnin the newer Kuhmo 712s Supra Ecetsa (screw spellin). These tires grip great for the price, and came in a variety of sizes, making wheels choice easier. I got what I payed for though. unless these tires are hot. They have a tendency of spinning. They are ok for NAs, but dont think about puttin em on a TT.
As for my TT, have the BFG KDW T/A..this is a great tire. It boils great, awsome traction. But yes, they're scary as hell in the wet. The tires are notorious about hydroplanin. Couple this with a bad alignment ( I bought the car this way and have just now gotten around to fixin it) +two turbos= one scary ride in the rain or wet.

I read somewhere that those RE90's have a tendency to go out of round and need frequent rebalancing.

Yeah, they did. They also didn't last long either. The Kuhmos are not much better, they have poor ride quiality. I think BFGs are better. Has anyone tried Advan/Yokohamas? I ve heard great reviews for the Toyos too?

I have the (stock??) yokohama AVIDs on my car now. I'm really impressed with the grip. Real predictable when approaching the limits of adhesion. On hard braking, high G load corners, you can feel the rears start to sideslip. It's the same with accelerating out of tight corners. This, of course, is in conjunction with the finely balanced (stock) chassis of a Z. :bow: :bow: :bow:

In the rain...... that's another story..... almost terrifying.

Is it almost safe to say that when it is raining to keep the TT parked and drive the NA. I havent heard many success stories with driven TTs in the rain, so it almost sounds like for the sake of keeping my car shiny. I ll park it, the only water I want it to see is the one coming from my water hose. LOL! Or am I just chicken.

:p well dude just be safe. Like I was telling 91tt I hit 110 teh other day on my Z on wet freeway. and just topday I did 135 mph on damp road. dont; try to switch lanes or turn and U'lll be fine. :D

:doh: That wasn't the sartest thing to do.

TT's are fine in the rain as long as the horsepower doesn't short circuit the signal between your brain and your right foot. When I drive my car in the rain, I drive the speed limit. No racing. No hard acceleration. Leave plenty of distant between you and the car in front of you. Just drive safe and responsibly.

The thing is, with his car, it could ignite before it hit anything. Cooling problems, electrical problems....next thing he's going to ask about is the fuel smell in the engine compartment.
