Smart4Cars ebay HID Kit

Here are the pix of the kit I received.

The Box:(Big Deal)

The box Open:

The Kit:

The Ballast:

The kit appears well packaged and complete, the instructions appear straight forward and easy to follow. The ballast is a cast frame with pressed top and bottom plates attached via screws in the corners and no cooling fins. The fitting at the bottom left in the pic of the ballast looks like a threaded nut fitting of some type but is really a thin metal crimp fitting.

I'm not sure what effect, if any, the things I've pointed out here will have on the performance of these HID light kits. These are just my honest opinions/observations on the the kit I received.

I took some pix, these are nothing like the lazers in the pix that Haknslash produced, but those are full on custom projectors etc.

I'm also not sure how those pix were taken, or what type of camera was used.

These were taken with a little Kodak Easy Share CX6330 3.1MP camera.

Enjoy

Well, I wanted to get a true comparison happening, so I called a buddy who has some super white halogen bulbs and got a little photo shoot going to see just what kind of gains I had gotten from this kit.

Halogen: (yes his lights are on)

HID:

Halogen:

Halogen Left, HID Right:

You can make your own conclusions.

you should get a front slight angle shot so you can actualy see the light have cars side by side, HID's look cool as hell from the front.

I don't care how they look, I care how they help me see.

Ummmm .... Why?

With a 12000K color temp those bulbs will be dim as $h!t.

Actually the higher the color temp, the lower the lumens (light out-put). 4300K is ideal, and what ALL oem hid lights are. Higher color temp will yield a more colored light, blue, purple, but, as stated above, less light out-put. Also the way our eyes work, they are less sensative to blue light which makes the higher temps even less valuable as lights.

But some people think they look cool

hey guys...sorry to bring back an old thread...but i just received my kit (8000k) from the same guy ...just as what barry said...packagin was in great shape...everything looks intact...haven't installed them yet...looks pretty straight foward...but i was just wondering where would be a good place to mount the ballast and how you did it? and if you have to drill any holes? the kit comes with some double sided tape, im not sure if that'll hold i'll try to post some pix after i install the new pair of eyes thanx

Only use the double-sided tape as a secondary method of securing - really need to use zip ties or screws. Speaking from experience, here. I bought a Prolumen set to convert the fogs on my '02 Max to match my factory HID's (actually went 6000K color on both - nice crystal white with slight blue tinge & still plenty of lumen output). Originally used the tape and mounted to a cleaned-off metal surface that I knew wouldn't get too hot, but that only lasted about 4 weeks. Used some heavy-duty zip ties in a way that the ballasts couldn't slip out & no problems since.

My ballasts didn't have any cooling fins, either, but I haven't had any failures yet. They've been on for around a year now & I run 'em day & night (gotta get my money's worth ).

Here ya go ...

There is an adjustment screw that you can just make out, near the upper right corner, of the headlight housing on the left of this pic.
If you follow the wires from the balast back, they run just to the left of the screw.

It is accessable via the hole in the upper radiator support bar that you see just above it.

Also when aiming your headlights, you need to be on level ground, and aim at a blank wall, about 20 feet away from the front of the car.

Not sure , the inner screws I pointed out in my post, aim the headlights left/right, the outer screws aim the headlights up/down. Using all the screws you should be able to get 'em aimed right. They worked for me
