Slick Tops (a.k.a. Hard Tops)

I have a delima. I have a '92 300z slick top that is in good condition with a little over 137,000 on the odometer, and I am not sure what I should do. Should I modify it and make it the road rocket I want? Or should I restore it to factory quality settings? From what everyone tells me is that the non-t -topped Z cars are extremely rare and hard to come by. Is this true? I have also heard rumors that the slick tops came with a different final drive gear ratio? But, i haven't found any information to prove it. So far I have only put a JWT intake, Hks Hiper exhaust, and a complete custom sound system. I want to do more, but I don't want to ruin the car either. Please give me your opinions on the matter.

Im keeping mine as new and as stock as possible, but im more of a z car enthusist. :)
I may just do a all stillen 300zx that way the parts would still be of nissan background. and on you question slick tops are really rare. dont know about the final drive gears though. :)

yeah slick tops are really rare. I do believe only a few hundred each year were made, maybe less!! As far as I know, I've never heard of the slick tops being any different mechanically from any other N/A. As far as condition of your vehicle is concerned, you've already made modifications to it. The question is how far do you want to go with it. You could always modify the living hell out of it but keep it looking tame and o.e. on the outside. You could also place every showy, shiny, trick part on it you could possibly find and leave the engine alone. There's always the appealing combination of both. It's entirely up to you, it is yours after all. It's really all a matter of degree. peace.

Flip a coin......

Either way would make a GREAT car. I would leave the outside stock, and just deck out that engine bay! They are ultimate drifting machines, stiffest chassis I have ever driven in. I would agree with Rizz there, make it a SLEEPER!:D . Well I am off my soap box, peace.

Slicktops ARE rare. Our slicktop Z's weigh in a little under 3100 lbs believe it or not. (We have a thread pages long on this on the other board) There isn't a different final drive ratio, but with a good driver your E.T.'s are a bit better with the lower weight.

Personally, I'd modify it all you want... but you know the ultimate thing you can do to a slicktop... is convert it to a TT. There were a number made overseas like that, and none here however. Some say it's more economical to sell your NA and get a TT... well that's if you have T-tops. If you're like us... ;) it's all about the slicktop. :D

Ha, yes, I'm an INFORMATIVE-post whore. :D I get bored with nothing going on over at 300zxforums... and I've got this entire week before I move into my apartment at school. And no job. ;) So as the saying goes... "I'll be here all week!"
