Lamp Warning Lights When Brake Applied

I have this problem on the 91 I just bought, but also noticed it when I test drove a 93. Whenever I step on the brake the Headlight Warning Light lights up. All lights are working. I'm thinking it's an electrical short somewhere.
Anyone else have this problem or heard of the fix?
Thanks for any help!

i got the same problem, even after i changed the bulbs, the lamp usually comes on when i am stuck in traffic and have to apply the brake continiously, it may be a defect bulb check relay which sits on the internal fuse block (?)

Anybody else?

Brake warning light is picky

The warning light is very sensitive on the Z32. The warning light measures the amount of current required to burn all the tail lamps when you apply the brake. When a bulb burns out, obviously it requires less current to light the remaining bulbs. When the current required is less than the amount of current the system normally requires, the warning light comes on.

I recently installed the J-spec tail lamps and began getting the warning lamp. I had to replace the bulbs one at a time until I found which one was causing the problem. As it turns out, because of variations in the manufacturing process, each light bulb will draw slightly more or less current. You just need to take a couple of new bulbs and replace some of your bulbs until you find a combination that the system likes.

Also, double check your center 3rd brake light bulbs. You can have one out on the Z32 and it not look like one is out from the back of the car.

Good luck.

You might want to check the bulb contacts on bulb and plug and clean any corrosion off of them. Mine did the same and all I did was clean the connections and its all good now.

Hi, I just saw this post and i have a similar problem. My brake lights don't work at all, only the third brake light works. My car came with the J-Spec or JDM tails already installed.
From searching I have found that the brake light sensor in the back hatch may be the culprit but when I went to the Nissan Parts counter they couldn't tell me the part numebr. I was wondering if anyone might know the part number? Thanks a lot. Almost forgot, its a 1990 Twin Turbo.
