Air Scoop
today me and my friend took off the stock panel between the headlights and began to mod it... The over all shape is a big nissan logo cut out and then an actual emblem in the middle roughly 1/8th the size of the outside... its a great idea and will get tons of air to my filter... as of now it doesn't look perfect cause were not done yet, but i am seeming to grab so much air its pulling the hood up at highway speeds, does this happen with the other scooped air intakes and is there anyway to remedy it? thanks

You might need to better seal the area between the front and rear of the radiator. There are baffles that install over the radiator and said area that'll help. These Radiator air guides are available at splparts.com under cooling.
Have any pics? |
I looked on that sight and it shows them but doesn't have them for sale... is this what everyone has to do, I see lots of people with the stillen ducted fronts. is there another way all those people remedy it?
I will get pics soon as it's finished, I like it personally and so do several of my friends but a few people have been getting me down about it... my dad especially. I post when its done to see what your guys think of it. thanks, chris |
Pics
How can I attach pictures? when I attempt to it gives me a window saying the file contains no data.
|
When in the reply screen, click the button below labeled "Manage Attachments." It'll open a little window that'll allow you to upload pics from your pc.
Maybe the problem you're experiencing is where the air comes in at. Most panels have the air directed toward the back of the panel. If you can post a pic we can examine your design a bit better. Could it be your design causes more air turbulence? |
Air Scoop
Here is a pic of it. I am not done with it but this is just to let your have a general idea, Im puting diamond mesh behind it, painting the edges factory color, and putting a nissan logo in the middle, my cpu was doing somthing wierd with the saving of the file... I had to copy it into paint and save it in there. I do not have my can filter intake installed yet, but it's coming... in case you were going to ask :p

What I did was this...
I cut a Z shaped opening in a center peice I found at the junk yard. I sanded the stock silver paint down, and primed it. After I get my intake system, it will guide the air PERFECTLY into the aftermarket filter. So when I get at high speeds, the air will be flowing in massively. I will also keep the stock center peice in the back of the car somewhere so if the weather becomes questionable... Two screw's off, two screws on, and no water in the intake... Not a bad idea eh? |
... Only problem I see with your idea there man.
That section in the middle is pretty weak. One punch, or kick in; and some ricer has access to your filter, MAF, and possible what ever else is under your hood. My Z emblem was originally a template I made out of cardboard, it's a three peice design. I'll post the original template pic I made on photoshop. Offer's some amount of strength, but still functional. |
Ooooook... For some reason it wont attach.
I'll try later on tonight. Or anyone who give's a crap, just post your E-Mail |
I agree with Nismo on the strength integrity thing. Maybe depending on the style/type/stength of the mesh you install, it might help the integrity and diffuse some of the straight air flow that's causing your hood to move.
I'd like to see it finished though. Looks interesting. |
Almost Done
Alright guys I know a few of you wanted to see this as it progresses, today me and my friend got to put several more hours into it... I figured i'd show you how it looks almost completed, the nissan logo in the middle is still missing, which is what I planned on tieing the whole thing together. We used a fairly dense diamond cut out mesh that actually has a real purpose of holding grout, looked good though, between that and the actual front of the panel is screen similar to that of what you would see on a porch. This design not only keeps debris out while keeping strenght but it looks awesome, almost black at first glance but when light shines on it the dimond shape wire behind it shines right through. I opted just to clear coat the diamond shaped wire instead my initial idea of painting it black, simply because it looked good silver, i didnt see how i would have been any more happy with black, especially with the screen darkening it anyway.

sorry guys i haven't had my car lately cause it has had problems but the front is finished!!! I will try to remeber to go to my driveway and take a pic tomorrow, it has the nissan logo now in the center which is the same shape as the overall design, I had problems at fiirst with so much air coming in that it was pulling up my hood, after i added the wire though it diffused the air so now it cools the engine alot and doesn't pull up the hood, well thats all i have to say tonight later!!
