what's the proper way to delete the egr system on an 86 turbo
 

what's the proper way to delete the egr system on an 86 turbo ... I'm installing the CM turbo back exhaust system and I dont have an AIV 02 sensor bung thingy and i just want to cap off that metal pipe or remove it, that goes to down part after turbo elbow ... what do you Z peoples suggest?

Buy a bung, drill a hole, and weld in a location that allows O2 sensor installation.

I'm sorry I made a mistake ... the o2 sensor is on the turbo elbow and i don't need to mess with it ... my exhaust goes after that and I need to remove the egr tube in the down pipe portion ... can i just remove the tube upto near the headlight or do i have to cap off stuff.

Oh, you're talking about the air injection system. That I'm not sure about. If you were to remove it, I don't know what the consequences would be.

I've seen this removed on several Zs. My work in process will not have it. I assume there are no negative effects. The hard part for me is getting the fitting off the pass side manifold. Cripes!!! Even with the manifold off, this is tough. Cap off the connection to the intake. I may cut the tube off the manifold, pinch the end and weld it shut.

It's intention is to recirculate exhaust gas back into the intake thus diluting the intake charge. This keeps cylinder temps under the point where oxides of nitrogen from forming in the emissions. Preventing its formation is the only way to control this because the converter does not process oxides of nitrogen.

So cylinder temp may be slightly higher. Just make sure you don't have detonation issues and everything will be fine. (If you have emissions testing in your area, your results might be affected.)

Anyone have experiences they can share on this. (Issues or testing problems.)

the head guy at certified muffler most people who order get the one without the aiv fitting ... when I ordered, I didn't know I could make a choice, they sent me the one without ... he said I could swap him with one that does, no problem ... but I heard you don't need it
