Anyone done a NA2T conversion?
Our problem is it's very hard to start when it's cold (ie room temp). I spits and sputters until it gets warmed up than runs great. When warm fires right off perfect.
If you look at our other thread about the conversion you can see what was done.
https://www.zdriver.com/forums/300zx-z31-performance-technical-227/na-turbo-motor-swap-experience-32549/
Simply put we converted the NA engine to turbo. Using the stock NA wiring harness. Our thinking right now is it has something to do with the FICD on the intake. From comparing the wiring diagrams in the FSM that part is a little different.
There's no other controls left on the intake except for the FICD.
My question for those who have done what we did is. Did you change the FICD or remove it or have the same problem with cold starts as we are having? If so what did you do to fix it??
Also where did you set your timing? The book says a NA is at 20 deg BTDC and a turbo is 15 deg. But I have no idea where to set a NA engine that has a added turbo. I just moved the distributor until the engine ran the smoothest at idle.
Some obvious details some might wonder are, we changed
The ECU to a turbo ECU
Put in turbo fuel injectors

Ok I think we figured this out on our own. Turns out the ECU we were using was from a 1984 Turbo and those have been known to have problems with being lean on start up.
Here's a copy of the txt from http://www.redz31.net/pages/fuel.html
"""84-85 ECU’s (all) have been reported to have a small lean surge problem during the first 30 seconds or so of engine warm up. This is most likely an issue with the cold-start enrichment and can be remedied by switching from CHTS to FTS signal during startup.""
We had a ECU from a 1986 and the car started right up.
Now we have the issue of the O2 sensor not being the right type. So anyone ever just run without a O2 sensor? Does it just run rich??
