piston sizes?

i hope sum one can help,i need to know if the pistons in a90-96 300zx are the same size as the ones in a 84-89 im on a hunt now for pistons and i cant seem to find them for the vgdoet but ive found lunty for the vg30et.
if they are the same size then ill just get a set of them tanks alot yall.

?!?!?!?!?!?!
Please proofread before you post.
Whats "found lunty"?
There is no such thing as a vgdoet or a vg30doet.
90-96 = vg30de(tt)
84-89 = vg30e(t)
84-3/87 vg30et = 7.8:1 CR
4/87-89 vg30et = 8.3:1 CR

Are the pistons damaged? If not just reuse them w/ new rings.

nis88300zx Aug 16, 2005 08:47 AM

it was plunty of pistons

and i couldve sowrn the engine in 84-89 was the vgdoet?
maybe not but still wiould the pistons for an 90-96 fit withut to much machining?

craZed Aug 16, 2005 12:34 PM

Ristpins are not the same size.

nis88300zx Aug 16, 2005 04:23 PM

are the crowns the same? what exactly is a wristpin? were i work i dont normally deal with connecting pistons to rods when we order them the come preinstalled on the rods.
the closest i have come to seeing a crown off a rod at the shop was when an engine came in that dropped an ehxuast vavle and the only parts left in that cyclinder was half a rod that was melted to the crankshaft

You say you found plenty for a vg30et.
You have a vg30et.
What is wrong with your pistons?

nis88300zx Aug 17, 2005 10:47 AM

im looking at 400 at the wheels on this build up so im gunna need pistons worth it
so im trying to find forged pistons for this prject

AZ-ZBum Aug 17, 2005 01:58 PM

stock pistons will hold 400hp easily.

craZed Aug 17, 2005 08:28 PM

He probably should go forged.
My crystal ball shows lots of detonation in his future.
Call BRC ,they custom make forged pistons for a resonable price.
z32 pistons AND rods will fit your block and crank.sometimes a z32 guy will put up for sale his forged pistons and rods, but you will have to search hard.

nis88300zx Aug 18, 2005 07:06 PM

are the z32's forged? ive found a nice set for 40$ out of an 92 n/a with only 80k on em would they fit??
ty ty ty !

craZed Aug 18, 2005 07:51 PM

No they are not forged.I ment sometimes they will sell their aftermarket parts when they realize they can't aford to finish what they started.DO NOT put z32 na pistons in your motor. You WILL blow it up if you do.

nis88300zx Aug 19, 2005 04:40 AM

argage to late already boought em i can prolly frind sum one locaclly to sell them to for 50$or so

I would love to hear your rationalization for that one.

He is shooting for 400rwhp.Do you not think he will blow it with high compression pistons?Wouldn't it make it some where around 9.5/1?Definately higher than 9/1.

craZed Aug 19, 2005 12:20 PM

There is a solution tho.Since you have to machine to match up the rist pin size, you could have it offcenter bored to lower the piston on the rod.But you will still have cast pistons that are no stronger than the ones you have.

traction issuez Aug 21, 2005 12:55 AM

sorry to thread jack

so if i get forged z32 pistons and rods, they fit? no machining? how about a z32 piston and rods in a vg33?

craZed Aug 21, 2005 10:46 AM

Only in a 3.0

nis88300zx Aug 21, 2005 07:44 PM

well the rods are forged right? that means not all is lost in buying the pistons/rod set
unless the rods in the 84-89 are forged o well u win some u lose some and thanks crazed i contacted brc and am waiting to find out prices.
how much do you tink they will run me?

craZed Aug 22, 2005 06:13 PM

All VGs have forged rods. But I think the z32 has better oil squirters. For you to use those rods you would have to tell them,so they can give you the appropriate
wrist pin size.I suggest you do some research and figure what compression ratio you want before you place your order.
Between $600and$900.Depends on if you get rings, pins ,coatings,etc..
And,yes that is a good deal.

I hope you realize what you are getting yourself into.
Expect to pay at least another couple thousand to get that 400whp.

nis88300zx Aug 23, 2005 04:53 AM

u dont think i would tear down my car this far for nothing do you?
im looking into getting a company loan.of 5k if i cant get that i have a good amount stored in the bank to get my sum what far into the build up.
right now during school im only working 12 hours a week at 9.25 an hour so i bring home right at 100$ a week when i graduate this year ill go back to full time and ill be making 340 a week+OT considering i have no bills to pay except insurance i think i should be covered financially plus at the end of july i get my yearly raise prolly .50 cents.

another thing when i pulled my pistons a while back(dont know why im thinking about this now)#1 pistons top ring had like a 1/2in gap not between the landingand the ring, but between the ends of the ring.
what would cuase that? it was only that pistons all others look alright.
