Oil Pump Diff.
Does anyone know the diff. between a oil pump on a 300z with a 5spd and a automatic? What I really need to know is can a oil pump that's listed for a automatic be used on a engine with a 5spd?
|
should be able to, I mean, its the same engine, the only time you should worry if any at all is if its turbo or not, plz correct me if I am wrong.
|
transmission doesn't make a difference in the oil pump.
|
z31s have two different oil pumps: one for turbo models and one for N.A. models and it’s without regard to the type of transmission. Because turbo engines have a longer oil distribution circuit, turbo models require a heavier duty oil pump than N.A. models. Also, all turbo automatic models have an engine oil radiator. I think OEM turbo oil pumps are now NLA.

I own 3 Z31's two N/a and one turbo, so far, they are the same. both have "oil coolers" so back to what Bum and I said, the tranny will have no effect on the oil pump. the only thing that might be different is the Turbos hunger for oil and the pump to feed it.

They are diff.
Turns out that the diff. is in the spring inside reg. I have both pumps in my shop and took the springs out and compared them.
I seem to remember reading some where that you have to use the right spring depending on if the car is a 5spd or Auto. My guess is that most of the time a 5SPD can be rev'd way higher. |
you didn't read any part of this thread, have you?
5 speed or automatic. it doesn't matter. NA vs. turbo. that's when it matters. |
You should not be so fast...
Read this about the oil pump.
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...?part=MEL-M110 Why do they tell you to use a diff. spring dep. on the if it's a 5spd. I have had both springs out and in my hands, both cars were Turbos. The auto is diff. than the 5spd, I don't give a $hit what you say. I guess the guys down at Summit are morons also. |
Just looked the oil pump up on autozones site as well and it says
"FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION REPLACE SPRING IN PUMP WITH EXTRA SPRING INCLUDED IN THE BOX. " So I guess they are just telling us that so we'll feel better or special when we have a 5spd. |
those are aftermarket companies who couldn't get shit right if it walked up and sat on their faces. look at the part numbers for the NISSAN microfiche.
|
regardless what the Nissan part numbers say, calling him an idiot for trying to verify a piece of information he got from what can be a most unreliable place for information (forums) is not right. He never specified if he was buying a Nissan pump or not. So the fact that it DOES matter with an aftermarket pump means it's a good idea he checked around. It takes a moron to take what he reads on the net as rule. And that is the EXACT opposite of what he did.
|
OK I read the fiche here's a link.
http://z31.com/fiche/2/j05.gif They have diff. part numbers for M and A trans. Take a look. Guess the guy who made the fiche is an idiot also. BTW thanks jfairladyz, your right I do not just take anyones word on a forum. Forums are great to get you started but I always double check any info. posted. I'd never be so vain to call someone an idiot because sure enough the min. I do I'd find I made a mistake. |
Yep. You're right. My apologies for being an ass.
I never bothered to verify information that I was told. Thank you for finally confirming it. |
Thanks AZ-ZBum for the kind words...
