not your average swap
Hey guys I have posted one of the other z sites also, just looking for any extra info.
I have a 1966 vw baja with a 12a rotary engine in it now. I am hoping to up the hp a little( tq also) with the 300 zx turbo engine. I already have the engine out and and running on its own. I have the adapter being made right now by kennedy engineering. It will be mated to 3 rib bus tranny to hold up to the torque. I was wondering what all can be stripped off the motor emissions wise to help free up some hp and to lose some junk not needed. I am gonna run the factory ecu for now and I would like it to run well also. I will upgrade as much as needed but 250-300 hp in a 2000lb bug should be enough for a while. I have seen a few v6 bajas but I am hoping to have the first v6 turbo. let me know what you think, thanks. |
Stripping off emissions stuff will only net you a couple HP at most. There really isn't a whole lot on the motor emissions wise. Most of the stuff is on the intake and exhaust. All the rest is idle crap.

thanks az. I will pop in every now and again if I have any troubles. I will try and get some pics up also, I tried the ones I have but they were to large.

This is a great and easy tool for shrinking large image files. It's a free program too!!! I use it all the time to knock images down to manageable sizes. Rod. |
kennedy just called the adapter is complete. it should be here next week. way fricken cool.

Interesting project.I am looking forard to seeing how this turns out.
How much tourqe can the bus trany handle? |
agreed, light weight bug, powerful 12 psi intercooled trubo engine from a z31 would see your goal easy and should net you really low times on the strip if it tickles ya fancy, take lots of photos!
|
the bus trannys are know to handle 400hp stock, depending on abuse. if the v6 looks like too much for baja I will find a camper bus to put it in. then I can pull my baja with the camper bus, and still pass people going up hills(the bus only came with a 60-70 hp engine).
|
id say your mad but give it a go
|
You will have a hard time keeping the front wheels on the road.

well I found a really cheap camper bus today. it has a 3 rib tranny as well. I might just turbo the rotary( 250hp maybe?) and throw the v6 in the bus. it would be nice to have it pull my baja to where we go camping. I will start freshening up the v6 this spring. its to cold to sit in my garage and clean a motor, gotta keep moving. plus the ol lady said no more toys until the baja is 100% done. I said "100% done??? that will be never". LOL
