headlight not working
 

so i just baught an 85 300zx n/a yesterday, however the headlights wont go up or down(only work manually). anyone know where i can start looking to hopefully fix this problem. side not: here is the previous owners post from earlier this year any help would be very appriciated


"couple of days and I had a problem that so far I am not able to narrow down and I need some wisdom on what to do. I was driving it and the windshield wipers turned on full speed, I heard a hiss and a pop from the right side of the engine and the digital dash died and the car died. I was able to restart the car and I found that the main battery fusible link was fried. After I replaced it the headlights are on even if the car is off, the windshield wiper motor is running but it either broke the linkage or destroyed the gear box as they no longer move. The headlights do not move up or down, the dome light is not working however the door lights work, and the only way to make things turn off is to remove the fusible link. I have been looking through diagrams and so far I have not been able to find any common links for all of these systems. The previous owner also told me that the aftermarket radio died a while back and betty stopped talking at the same time. The other thing that I noticed is that on the same trip the alternator was charging between 14 vdc up to the top of the gauge. Any ideas or help would be great. Thanks"

get the fsm. buy a vom and electricity for dummies. start tracing wires. you have too many things wrong to even guess where the problem or problems are.

ok so small update. i believe the little white box in the trunk (a.k.a tail and stop lamp sensor) has 2 burnt red wires, trying to get new box from nissan, but cant seem to find the 6 plug conenctor for it. i have replaced the headlight switch with a brand new one, headlights now come on but wont turn off nor will the dash lights turn off, and still no turn signals(hazards still work), so i baught a flasher fuse/relay what ever(needs to be put in) i believe my head light motors are no good, so i just manually raise and lower them. i have ordered the manual for the car should be here soon. side note: i think some1 did a crap job when putting an aftermarket radio in cause all the wire behind it are just cut and loose i am in the process of capping them and figuring out where they go. also the box where the fusible link sits is it possible that it is not working properly as well?

ok so i think i found my brake light problem. i finally got my white sensor box undone from the burnt wires. i can get the boxfrom nissan for 130$ but i cant find the 6 bin connector wire for it. anyone know where to get it? heres a few pics of the box and wires.

if the headlights go up and down the motors are fine. the problem is in the circuitry controlling them when you turn the lights on. download the fsm from xenon. you won't have to wait unless you are stil on dial up. like I said buy a vom and electricity for dummies.

i will be gettinga vom soon. on the other hand i have re-wired the tail lights. re-wired the tail light sensor and now i have break lights again. i have both headlights to turn on but still wont turn off unless i take the fusible link out. i have taken out all radio wires and removed the ac control unit. i am going to have to buy a new harness for all that, who ever put the radio in did a bad job of wiring. now the headlight motors... i replaced both fuses that were out for them, when i did i tested to see if that fixed it but all i got was the driver side would go up and down repeatedly, passanger side nothing... both motors are getting power as they both are making some noise. i am going to take my car up tomorrow tp get a diagnostic and oil change see if they can point me in direction of what sensor/relays/switches need to be checked.

odd thing is the box still works i re wired the connector and they work now. only a temp fix till i can find a replacement

Do the running and side marker lights turn on?

yeah all running lights and brake lights work. head lights turn on but wont turn off. no turn signals but i have hazards. i changed the headlight switch already.

driver side headlight not working
 

i noticed my driver side headlight wasnt working tonight i figure its a relay only because i just put a brand new switch in it last week. any insight into this issue?
