grinding between 1st and 2nd

grinding between 1st and 2nd ... Is it the syncros or clutch? or something else ... I have an 86 turbo with about 285 hp ... it has about 70,000 miles on it ... trans and clutch are original I'm pretty sure ... ebc is set to 12.5 psi, full CM exhaust, K&N filter, A/C belt and system removed, running 93 octane shell gas, mobil 1 in engine and trans ... it happens when I get on it so I turned off the ebc, and it doesn't happen too much anymore ... so if I get a racing clutch and lightened flywheel will it solve my problem?

new flywheel and clutch wont really fix grinding, could seem like it if you re-bleed the master and slave though, try changing the tranny fluid with something nice and quality and that SHOULD take care of it for a little while.

I changed the tranny fluid about 2 months ago with a mixture of Mobil 1 gear oil and heavy duty lucas gear oil ... I've never bled the master or slave clutch fluid ... maybe that's it

Anytime I so much as disconnect the master or slave cylinders I bleed the system. If the fluid is old and murky change it out for something fresh. Grinding gears could be a sign of many things. In my experience it's always ended up being one of the counter shaft bearings has blown apart. This unfortunately is common in the Z 5 speeds.

Synchronizer.... When you're gettin' on it, you'll automatically try to shift a little faster. The synchronizer can't keep up with your speedy shift, thus, you grind the gears. When you're takin' it easy, you'll shift slower, the engine rpm will drop a bit more, and you sort of float the next gear, like the truckers shifting their unsynchronized transmissions without using the clutch.

I doubt a fluid change will help. You need some new hardware.

Bleeding the clutch might help, maybe. At least you'd be sure the clutch was fully releasing.

If you do everything on your "wanna do" list of mods, you should go ahead and be shopping for a good, used, FS5R30A because you will shred what you have now.

Trust me... I speak the truth...

Your best bet is to find an '88 turbo junker you can get for salvage pricing. Go look. You will find them.

Then drag it home.

Put it in the shed, and tear it apart.

Take all the good parts, and dispose of the rest.

There are z31 bone yards everywhere. Just start looking.

Good luck, and, have fun...
