ECU code 33 on an 86?

Have searched a bit, but can't find, my ECU was giving two codes, 12 and 33. Yeah, mass airflow sensor, $200, sucks. But what's 33?

maf from any z31 turbo or n/a will work check the local junkyards. my experience the codes seldom do you much good. check the maf per the procedure in the fsm before you go off on a blue sky adventure.

Thanks again, yeah, I went right out and dropped the $200 to order one from Auto Zone... but my plan was to check the sensor, see if could be cleaned, and if possible, take the new one back for a refund if I don't need it.

And... F.. Service Manual? Factory? I've got Xenon's pdf's, but the one with the MAFS doesn't really say anything about it (Engine Fuel and Emission Control.)

Went ahead and found a MASF out of an 85 from Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market, from a source less than 100 miles away, so even if shipping is the same I can say I bought local... $45 delivered is a lot better than $200.

ef ec 55. Did you download the correct manual? You have to read it not use it for a pillow. I'M TRYing to help you out here but you have to do some of the work. Almost everything you need to work on your car is contained in that manual. If you haven't cleaned the contacts for maf, tps, ecu and have your battery and cables in A-one shape you are just shooting in the dark. search the net for a procedure on replacing the chts and then do it. usually by this time the wiring and connector for that unit are fried from years of sitting atop a hot engine. bad or marginal chts cause a myriad of weird problems. maf seldom go bad unless someone been sticking their fingers in there

There it is... yes, I've been reading through it a bit... but it's a lot of pages and I'm not a mechanic... yet. This is the first car I've ever felt like doing more than the bare minimum to keep running, and I've had the car less than 3 weeks.

And no, I'm sure my mechanic didn't do all that to test the AFM, he just read the code and told me it's bad. So, when the new AFM gets here, and I take out the old one, I'll do the testing as indicated, as best I can.
