Differential/ transmission problems! wheels wont turn..

Hi everyone! im new to the z31 chassis but owned a 71 240z a few years back and loved it now im ready to have some fun with this turbo fairlady.

i picked this 1984 turbo 5 speed Zed up a week ago and it had been sitting for a long time (months) the clutch was out completely so i put in a basic stage two clutch and new fluid in. the car is sitting in the air on four jack stands as of right now but the problem is the rear wheels are not engaging when i put it into gear (any gear) i can see the drive shaft spinning when in neutral and it stops when the clutch is engaged and spins again when i put it in gear, but no movement from the wheels whatsoever..

how can i test to see if the differential went out or what else could i check to fix this problem?? ( sorry for the long post im just exited to get this thing o the road and driving haha)

Looks like it time for the vlsd!

yeah my guess is that the differential is shot. But I'm still confused on the fact that the drive shaft spins in neutral.. maybe I put the clutch I'm backwards?? But it goes into gear smoothly

Can you rotate the wheels by hand?

AkumaZeto 07-06-2015 02:36 PM

yeah I can rotate the wheels by hand, but it doesn't spin the drive shaft, I also spun the drive shaft but got no spinning from the wheels. I ended up buying a used differential from an n/a 86 and I'm about to put it on hopefully that will fix the problem I don't see what else it could be

Are the axles attached to the wheels :D...you never know, we all have those moments!

Yea they were definitely on haha I'm replacing the diff already I'll see What happens with the new diff tomorow
