Crankshaft Sprocket Removal

Hello,

I'm stripping a N/A engine and am stuck getting the crankshaft sprocket off. There is no room to get a gear puller on it. I've tried a little bit of heat (just to maybe break the bond between the crank and the sprocket) but haven't had any luck. How do people normally get the crank sprocket off?

Thanks!

Order a new one and CAREFULLY cut the sprocket almost all the way through at the keyway then use a cold chisel and hammer to split it. I had the same issue on my 88 turbo and I wish I had done that to begin with instead of prying and heating etc. If you did use heat, please replace the front main seal with a new one as the heat can damage it.

there is room, just so everyone knows. you just have to pull the radiator. Some VG30's the crankshaft pulley falls off. Some feel like they're welded on. A very large 3 jaw, or a dedicated crank pulley puller are all you need. You can rent one from autozone for free.
